DAYTON – The University of Dayton women's soccer team, in conjunction with head coach
Eric Golz and the Flyers coaching staff, announced it's 2022 signing class on Thursday, featuring eight players to be added to the 2022 roster.Â
"We are extremely excited about these 8 women who have decided to continue their careers here at the University of Dayton. It is a diverse class of very motivated, talented, and driven women that will help to further strengthen our current roster. They have all been dedicated student-athletes that are competing for high level teams and in great developmental environments, which will benefit them in their continued transition into our program. We are in the constant pursuit of performing at an elite level in the classroom, on the field and in the community; and each of these women will live our values and contribute significantly in those pursuits."Â
Mary Dziuba is a 5'6" winger from Ada, Michigan. Originally from Kalamazoo, Michigan, Dziuba joins the Flyers roster by way of Western Michigan University, where she played in 18 matches in 2021, scoring three goals and registering three assists with 29 total shots in her freshman campaign. Dziuba was named to the All-MAC Freshman Team, and also earned Academic All-MAC honors in 2021. "Mary arrives in Dayton with a year of collegiate playing experience, which will be a huge benefit to her as we integrate her into our program. She is a gifted winger, creative and elusive with the ball at her feet, provides great service from set pieces, and is capable of both creating and scoring opportunities."
Karli Ferguson is a 5'6" winger from Homer Glen, Illinois. The Tinley Park, Illinois native attends Carl Sandburg High School in Orland Park, Illinois, and plays her club soccer for Eclipse Select under Mike Nesci. Ferguson is a 2021 ECNL National Champion with Eclipse Select, and also won a state championship with Chicago Inter in 2018. "Karli will come with a great deal of high level youth experience having won the 2021 ECNL National Championship with her Eclipse Select team. Karli is an explosive and powerful winger, she is competitive and plays with a blue collar mentality. She will be dynamic in the attack and relentless in her defending."
Kyra Karfonta is a 5'9" forward from South Lyon, Michigan. The Southfield, Mich. native is a member of the Michigan Jaguars club soccer team, and is a multiple-time cup champion, as well as the 2018 USYSA National Champions. Karfonta is a two-time all-conference athlete in cross country at South Lyon. "Kyra is coming from a very talented Michigan Jaguars team that has consistently competed for National Championships in the USYSA, DA and GA leagues. She has impressive physical range, is dangerous off of the dribble, provides great service from wide areas, and can finish from the ground or out of the air. She will be an asset on both sides of the ball."
Ella Raimondi is a 5'10" defender/midfielder from Erie, Pennsylvania. The Erie native has had a very decorated career at Villa Maria Academy, including being named the Northwestern PA Female Soccer Player of the Year in 2020, and twice being named the team MVP. The senior scored 23 goals and tallied 19 assists in her sophomore season, and in her senior season led Villa Maria to the Pennsylvania State Final match. Raimondi is ranked 494th nationally by MaxPreps, and 50th overall in the state of Pennsylvania, and plays her club soccer for Internationals SC ECNL. She has also been nominated for National Girls Soccer Player of the Year by USA Today. "Ella has had a decorated youth career at Villa Maria Academy and with Internationals SC. She has a tremendous physical tools to be a disruptive defender, she is a great ball winner and aerial threat, and she has great passing range. Ella can be impactful both in the back line or in midfield."
Batoul Reda is a 5'8" goalkeeper from Dearborn, Michigan. Reda attends Fordson High School in Dearborn, and plays club soccer for the Michigan Jaguars FC. With the Jaguars in 2018, Reda was named to the National Championship Best Eleven, and was also awarded the National Championship Series Golden Glove for her performance in net. " Batoul is another special athlete that has competed for and developed with the Michigan Jaguars. She is a unique goalkeeper; she is gifted in shot blocking and dealing with crosses, she is confident and brave in her decision making, she is very capable in her distribution with her feet and hands. She has all of the tools that we look for in a goalkeeper that will succeed within our style of play."
Molly Russell is a midfielder from Henderson, Nevada. Russell attended Coronado High School and played for Heat FC ECNL. At Coronado, Russell was a regional and state champion in 2021. The midfielder averaged a goal per game in 24 high school appearances. "Molly is a dynamic, playmaking central midfielder. She can create with the ball at her feet, she can cover a great deal of ground with her physical ability, and she displays great vision and awareness as a playmaker. We were able to identify her later in the recruiting process, and we are incredibly excited about her potential and her future here at Dayton."
Sophie Weeks is a 5'7'' midfielder from Reston, Virginia. Sophie attends St. Paul VI Catholic High School, where she was a four-year varsity starter for the Panthers. Weeks was named the Rookie of the Year in 2019, and First Team All-PVI in 2021. The Virginia native plays her club soccer for McLean YS ECNL under coach Nadir Moumen. "Sophie is an exciting prospect that competed for St. Paul VI Catholic High School and McLean YS ECNL, one of the best youth clubs in the country. She is an incredibly versatile player with good physical and technical range. She has the engine to cover a lot of ground, is incredibly competitive and has the technical and tactical skillset to solve many of the problems that the game will present."Â
Mairin Wessner is a 5'9" forward from Northville, Michigan. The Royal Oak, Mich. native attends Northville High School, and plays her club soccer for the Michigan Jaguars FC. A National Champion in 2018, Wessner scored 15 goals in 10 games for the Jaguars in the fall of 2020. Wessner also was a state cup champion in the spring of 2017, as well as the fall of 2017 with the Michigan Jaguars. "Mairin is a gifted goal scorer that has competed for national championships with the Michigan Jaguars. She is a forward that can play centrally or wide, and has proven to be a clinical finisher both from the ground and in the air. She is a leader, a competitor, and a dynamic attacking player that plays with some personality."
