Women's Soccer Wins Third Straight Match Sunday

Flyers Topple Kent State On Humid Day At Baujan Field

DAYTON – The University of Dayton women's soccer team was back at Baujan Field on Sunday, as they hosted the Kent State Golden Flashes out of the Mid-American Conference.

The Flyers won their third straight match Sunday afternoon, dominating the stat sheet throughout, but winning the match by a 1-0 margin. The Golden Flashes fall to 0-2-1 overall following the loss, after a match where they generated just one shot on goal.

COACH'S COMMENT
"It was a difficult day to play with the heat, so I was proud of the team's mentality to assert ourselves from the beginning of the game," commented head coach Eric Golz. "We were good in possession, we generated quality opportunities from multiple areas of the field and multiple players, and we were alert in transition defensively.  It was a team effort to find a way to win today, we kept them on their back foot when we had the ball and earned another team shutout.  We will recover from this one, and prepare to play on Baujan again on Thursday night."

KEY MOMENT
The first half was dominated by the Flyers, as they controlled the ball for much of the frame and registered 13 total shots to Kent State's one. Despite this domination, the teams would head to the locker room tied at 0-0. With much of the same pace to start the second half, the Flyers would earn a free kick in the 64th minute from about 25 yards out. Natalie Hegg stepped up to whip a ball into the box, and when the ball had landed, it was past the Kent State goalkeeper and rippling the back of the net to give Dayton a 1-0 lead.

SCORING SUMMARY
Hegg's first goal of the season, a highlight reel goal at that, would be the only scoring in the match, as the Flyers stifling defense held the Golden Flashes to one shot on goal, an easy save for second half keeper Batoul Reda. The unassisted tally occurred in the 64th minute and propelled Dayton to their third straight victory.
