No. 18 Men's Soccer Hosts Eastern Illinois Tuesday

The Flyers Look To Keep Their Winning Streak Alive

DAYTON - The University of Dayton men's soccer team will return home Tuesday to host Eastern Illinois University at 7 p.m. at Baujan Field.

SCOUTING THE FLYERS
Dayton continues to keep their hot streak alive with a 4-0 record on the year and have not lot suffered a defeat since Nov. 6 last season. The Flyers are 1-0 at home this year having their last contest at Baujan versus Evansville canceled due to weather.

Head coach Dennis Currier is in his 18th season in charge of the Flyers and was named Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year for the 2020 season.

As a team, the Flyers are the No. 1 scoring offense in the nation with 4.50 goals per game and are holding opponents to just 0.75 goals per outing. Dayton is out-shooting opposing teams 24.3 to 4.5 and at a higher percentage.

UD is led by seniors Forster Ajago and Andy Sanchez, who both have three goals and two assists on the year. Freshman Joseph Melto-Quiah has chipped in two goals and three assists while sophomore Michael Adedokun has a team-high four assists. Junior goalkeeper Dario Caetano has two shutouts and a 0.75 goals against average.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
EASTERN ILLINOIS

Eastern Illinois comes to Dayton with a 1-2-1 record overall having played all four games so far on the road. The Panthers are coming off their first win of the season, which was on Sept. 4 however.

Head coach Josh Oakley became the 11th head coach in program history this offseason, having previously served as assistant coach for the Panthers.

Overall, EIU is averaging 1.0 goal per game while allowing twice that to opposing squads. The Panthers are being out-shot 6.75 to 18.25, but are shooting at a higher percentage.

Leading the offense for Eastern Illinois is Sam Eccles with two goals and one assist on the year. Julian Smith and Delphy Sabu have scored for the Panthers as well. Goalkeeper Chad Smith has made four appearances between the posts with 16 saves and one shutout.

LAST OUTING
Dayton played its first true road game of the season Saturday at Kansas City and left with a 4-1 victory over the Roos. Goals from freshmen Gabriel Kringen and Casper Svendby aided goals from Ajago and senior Manny Day to clinch the win.

Eastern Illinois earned is first victory of the season with a 1-0 win at Purdue-Fort Wayne on Sept. 4. Julian Smith scored in the 15th minute and that would be all the goals the Panthers would need as they held on for the shutout.

SERIES HISTORY
Dayton and Eastern Illinois have faced each other six times previously with the Flyers holding a 4-2 record advantage. They have not played since 2012 when UD won at home, 4-1.

TOP-RANKED OFFENSE IN NATION
The Flyers have come out of the gate strong this season offensively and lead the nation in scoring with 4.50 goals per game. UD also is first in points per game, second in shots per game, and second in goal differential.

FLYERS RANKED 18TH IN USC POLL
In the latest United Soccer Coaches national rankings, Dayton moved up to 18th in the country after receiving votes last week.

The Flyers will remain at home for the Atlantic 10 opener on Saturady, Sept. 17 at 7 p.m. at Baujan Field against Saint Joseph's.
