DAYTON - The University of Dayton men's soccer team will open up the Atlantic 10 season Saturday, Sept. 17 at 7 p.m. against Saint Joseph's at Baujan Field.
SCOUTING THE FLYERS
Dayton is ranked 17th in the country and sits at 5-0 on the season, having not lost since November of last year. The Flyers are 2-0 at home and are looking to keep their streak alive to start conference play.
Head coach
Dennis Currier is in his 18th season in charge of the Flyers and was named Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year for the 2020 season.
As a team, the Flyers are averaging 4.00 goals per game and holding opponents to just 0.60 goals for a 20-3 goal advantage on the season. UD is shooting 29.6 times per game, which leads the country.
UD is led by seniors
Forster Ajago and
Andy Sanchez, who both have four goals and two assists on the year. Sophomore
Michael Adedokun has a team-high five assists, ranking third in the nation, while freshman
Joseph Melto Quiah has added two goals and three assists. Junior goalkeeper
Dario Caetano has three shutouts in five starts.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
SAINT JOSEPH'S
Saint Josephs comes to Dayton with a 0-2-3 record overall and is 0-1-3 on the road this season. The Hawks' last win came on Oct. 26 of last year in a double OT victory over Navy.
Head coach Don D'Ambra enters his 13th season for the Hawks and is looking to take his team back to the A-10 tournament as last season they recorded eight wins and earned themselves a three seed.
Overall, Saint Joseph's is averaging 0.4 goals per game while allowing 1.0 goal per game. They are capitalizing on .038 percent of shots while allowing opponents to score on .088 percent of their shots.
Leading the way for the Hawks is James Fletcher and Philipp Wujewitsch, who both have tallied one goal. Luis Ludosan is the primary goalkeeper for the Hawks, and has recorded eight saves while notching a shutout in their last outing.
LAST OUTING
Dayton earned a 2-0 victory over Eastern Illinois Tuesday, staying unbeaten on the season. The Flyers only scored two goals despite recording 51 shots in the contest to the Panthers' two. Ajago and Sanchez both scored for UD.
Saint Joseph's earned a 0-0 draw at Drexel on Tuesday with neither team able to break the deadlock in a tight affair. The Hawks outshot the Dragons 14-7, but only put four attempts on target.
SERIES HISTORY
Dayton and Saint Joseph's have met 19 times previously with the Flyers holding a commanding 16-1-2 lead in the series. They last faced off in 2019 with UD coming out on top 2-1 on the road.
ATTACK MINDED
The Flyers have come out of the gate strong this season offensively and lead the nation in shots per game, shots on goal per game, and penalty kicks. They rank second in goal differential, scoring offense, and are third in total goals.
FLYERS RANKED 17TH IN USC POLL
In the latest United Soccer Coaches national rankings, Dayton moved up to 17th in the country after being No. 18 last week. This is the highest ranking ever for the Flyers and fourth season in which they have been in the Top 25 (19th in 2013, 21st in 2009, 22nd in 2008).
FOUR FLYERS EARN ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM HONORS
Dayton had four players named to the Wolstein Classic All-Tournament Team with seniors
Xavier Zengue,
Andy Sanchez, and
Manny Day receiving accolades while freshman
Casper Svendby was named to the team as well.

Dayton head coach
Dennis Currier ranks in the Top 15 all-time in career victories . Among active coaches, he is Top 20 in winning percentage and eighth in career wins.

WOLSTEIN CLASSIC CHAMPIONS
Dayton defeated Cal Poly and South Carolina to win the 2022 Ohio State Wolstein Classic, outscoring its opponents 9-2 over the weekend.
SANCHEZ, KRINGEN RECEIVE A-10 HONORS
Senior
Andy Sanchez was named A-10 Offensive Player of the Week in the first awards release of the season after scoring two goals and adding two assists in the Wolstein Classic title run. Freshman
Gabriel Kringen picked up A-10 Rookie of the Week honors for his game-winning goal against Cal Poly and an assist against South Carolina.
FLYERS SIXTH IN PRESEASON POLL
Dayton was picked to finish sixth in the A-10 preseason poll ahead of Duquesne, Saint Joseph's, and Massachusetts. The Flyers were selected behind newcomers Loyola Chicago while Saint Louis was predicted to repeat as champions with 13 of the 14 first-place votes.
INTERNATIONAL FLAIR
Dayton historically has had a diverse team with players hailing from all over the globe. This season is no different with the Flyers having student-athletes from 10 different countries.
