No. 24 Men’s Soccer Wins At Rhode Island

The Flyers Scored In Each Half To Stay Unbeaten

KINGSTON, R.I. - The University of Dayton men's soccer team went on the road to the University of Rhode Island Saturday and earned a 2-0 victory in Atlantic 10 play.

The Flyers (6-0-1, 1-0-1 A-10) earned their first league win while the Rams (4-1-4, 0-1-1 A-10) suffered their first loss of the season.

KEY MOMENT
  • End of half – The Flyers managed to score a goal in the final five minutes of both halves to seal the victory.
SCORING BREAKDOWN
  • 41:55 – Senior Manny Day headed the ball home in the 42nd minute off the assist from freshman Casper Svendby. It was Day's fourth goal of the season and Svendby's third assist.
  • 86:23 – Senior Ousseynou Cisse scored on a breakaway for his first goal of the year.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Dayton and Rhode Island recorded 11 shots each, but it was the Rams that put one more on target.
  • Goalkeeper Dario Caetano recorded his fourth shutout of the season.
  • Senior Forster Ajago had a team-high three shots, two on goal, while freshman Joseph Melto Quiah and Day both had two shots.
  • UD had a 5-1 corner kick advantage.
COACH'S COMMENTS
"It was a great road win for the team tonight as well as three points towards conference play," said head coach Dennis Currier. "We did very well controlling most of the game, but had to display a lot of grit towards the end when they sent numbers forward and got very direct on us."

  • The Flyers will return home to host West Virginia Tuesday, Sept. 27 at 7 p.m. at Baujan Field.
