DAYTON - The University of Dayton men's soccer team returns home to host West Virginia University on Tuesday, Sept. 27 at 7 p.m. at Baujan Field.
SCOUTING THE FLYERS
Dayton enters the game ranked No. 24 in the country and has an unbeaten record of 6-0-1 overall and 1-0-1 in Atlantic 10 play. The Flyers are 2-0-1 at home this year.
Head coach
Dennis Currier is in his 18th season in charge of the Flyers and was named Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year for the 2020 season.
As a team, the Flyers are averaging 3.29 goals per game and allowing just 0.57 goals to opponents. UD is outshooting opposing teams 25.7 to 5.0 and ranks in the top five in the nation in goal differential, scoring offense, shots per game, and shots on goal per game.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
WEST VIRGINIA
The West Virginia Mountaineers are 2-5-1 and 0-1-1 in Sun Belt conference play. They are 0-4 on the road this season, and are coming off of two consecutive losses to No. 13 Portland and No. 4 Marshall (both on the road).
Dan Stratford is in his third season as the head coach of the Mountaineers. In 2021, he led his alma mater to their highest final ranking at No. 8 to finish their season.
The Mountaineers are averaging 1.13 goals per game while allowing their opponents to average 1.50 goals. West Virginia has averaged 11.5 shots per game with their opponents averaging 7.8 shots. They also have a greater on-goal percentage than their opponents with an average of 39.1% to opponents' 38.7%.
West Virginia is led by Ryan Crooks, who has a team-high eight points and two goals. Luke McCormick and Max Trethewey have combined for eight points. Goalkeeper Jackson Lee has 11 saves and has recorded two shutouts through West Virginia's first eight games.
LAST OUTING
Dayton earned a tough 2-0 victory at Rhode Island this past Saturday with goals from seniors
Manny Day and
Ousseynou Cisse, both of which came in the final five minutes of each half.
West Virginia suffered a 1-0 loss to rival and No. 4 ranked Marshall Saturday at home. The Herd scored the game-winning goal in the 85th minute of a back-and-forth affair.
SERIES HISTORY
Dayton and West Virginia have played four times previously with the Mountaineers holding a 3-1 series advantage. The two teams last met in 2021 where the Flyers fell to No. 4 ranked WVU, 3-0, on the road.
ATTACK MINDED
The Flyers are one of the most dangerous offenses in the country as they lead the nation in shots per game, shots on goal per game, and rank second in goal differential. UD is also Top 10 in scoring offense, goals, and points.
FLYERS RANKED 24TH IN USC POLL
In the latest United Soccer Coaches national rankings, Dayton moved down to 24th in the country after being No. 17 last week. That was the highest ranking ever for the Flyers and fourth season in which they have been in the Top 25 (19th in 2013, 21st in 2009, 22nd in 2008).
