No. 18 Men's Soccer Returns To Action Saturday At Kansas City

The Flyers Sit At 3-0 On The Season

DAYTON - The University of Dayton men's soccer team will head on the road to face Kansas City Saturday, Sept. 4 at 8:30 p.m. ET at Durwood Stadium.

SCOUTING THE FLYERS
Dayton sits at 3-0 on the year and is ranked 18th in the country with wins over Cal Poly, South Carolina, and St. Thomas. With preseason included, the Flyers have outscored opponents 25-5. This is the first true road game for UD this year.

Head coach Dennis Currier is in his 18th season in charge of the Flyers and was named Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year for the 2020 season.

As a team, the Flyers boast the No. 1 scoring offense in the nation with 14 goals through three games with a +12 differential. UD also ranks second in the country in shots per game and shots on goal.

UD is led by senior Andy Sanchez, with three goals and two assists, and fellow senior Forster Ajago, with two goals and two assists. Sophomore Michael Adedokun has a team-high three assists while goalkeeper Dario Caetano has two shutouts in three starts.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
KANSAS CITY

The Roos enter the match 2-2, coming off a 3-2 win versus Detroit Mercy after losing 1-4 to No. 16 Tulsa on Sept. 2.

Ryan Pore is in his third season as head coach. He won the 2020 Summit League Coach of the Year in his first season.

Overall, Kansas City and their opponents are pretty even. The Roos score 1.75 goals a game while giving up 2.25 goals a game. But opponents are shooting at a higher percentage on goal, on average shooting 54.9 percent on goal compared to the Roos 47.1 percent.

Kazuki Kimura and Shfeo Lar both lead the team with two goals and one assist. Goalkeeper Cooper Clark has a 67.9 save percentage.

LAST OUTING
Dayton earned a 5-0 victory in the home opener against St. Thomas Sept. 2. Joseph Melto Quiah scored a brace while Forster Ajago and Michael Adedokun had a goal and an assist each.

Kansas City picked u a 3-2 win at home against Detroit Mercy on Sept. 5. The Roos rallied from an early deficit and got the game-winner in the 89th minute from Christian Koffi.

SERIES HISTORY
Dayton and Kansas City are meeting for the third time in program history with the Flyers holding the 1-0-1 record advantage. The two teams last faced off in 2021 with the game ending in a 1-1 double overtime draw at Roger Glass Stadium.

FLYERS RANKED 18TH IN USC POLL
In the latest United Soccer Coaches national rankings, Dayton moved up to 18th in the country after receiving votes last week.

WOLSTEIN CLASSIC CHAMPIONS
Dayton defeated Cal Poly and South Carolina to win the 2022 Ohio State Wolstein Classic, outscoring its opponents 9-2 over the weekend.

FOUR FLYERS EARN ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM HONORS
Dayton had four players named to the Wolstein Classic All-Tournament Team with seniors Xavier Zengue, Andy Sanchez, and Manny Day receiving accolades while freshman Casper Svendby was named to the team as well.

SANCHEZ, KRINGEN RECEIVE A-10 HONORS
Senior Andy Sanchez was named A-10 Offensive Player of the Week in the first awards release of the season after scoring two goals and adding two assists in the Wolstein Classic title run. Freshman Gabriel Kringen picked up A-10 Rookie of the Week honors for his game-winning goal against Cal Poly and an assist against South Carolina.

FLYERS SIXTH IN PRESEASON POLL
Dayton was picked to finish sixth in the A-10 preseason poll ahead of Duquesne, Saint Joseph's, and Massachusetts. The Flyers were selected behind newcomers Loyola Chicago while Saint Louis was predicted to repeat as champions with 13 of the 14 first-place votes.

The Flyers will return home to host Eastern Illinois Tuesday, Sept. 13 at 7 p.m.
