DAYTON – The University of Dayton men's tennis program will open up the 2023 spring season this weekend in matches at Indiana University Sunday and Purdue University Monday.
"We are very excited to get the season underway," said senior
Georgi Mavrodiev. "We are going up against a couple of high level schools to get things started so it's going to be a great opportunity to show the work we have been putting in. Our overall goal for the season is to win the Atlantic 10 title, but we are going to take it one match at a time and give it our all."
The Flyers are coming off the 2021-22 season in which they went 16-8 overall and 4-0 in Atlantic 10 play as a team. Dayton was 8-1 at home and 4-1 in neutral site contests as well.
UD advanced all the way to the A-10 Championship match before falling to No. 1 seed VCU to end the season. It was the Flyers' first trip to the title match since 2018.
Dayton is led by seniors
Connor Bruce,
Max DeCurtins,
Matt DeMarco,
Oliver Dunne, and Mavrodiev.
DeMarco is only the third Flyer in program history to be ranked nationally and will look to carry that momentum into the 2023 campaign. He also joins Bruce and junior
Ronit Hiryur as All-Conference honorees last season.
Sunday's match will take place at the IU Tennis Center in Bloomington, Ind. starting at 11 a.m. with Monday's contest beginning at noon at the Schwartz Tennis Center in West Lafayette, Ind.
