Men’s Tennis Takes On Youngstown State Sunday

The Flyers Have Faced A Tough Schedule To Start The Season

DAYTON – The University of Dayton men's tennis team will continue its season this Sunday, Jan. 22 at Youngstown State University.

The Flyers will battle the Penguins at 12 p.m. at the YSU Indoor Tennis Center.

" Our team got off to a really solid start against some tough opponents, and coming out of the first week with a win under our belts is huge for the confidence of the team," said junior Ronit Hiryur. "Going into the match against Youngstown this weekend is going to be a different challenge because we will be the favorites, but all of us feel ready to compete and fired up. Youngstown is a gritty team so we are gonna have to go out there and show them what we got."

Dayton enters the match with a 1-3 record on the year, holding a win over Purdue and losses on the road at Indiana and No. 4 Kentucky.

Seniors Connor Bruce and Georgie Mavrodiev have led the way for the Flyers in the early stages of the season while Eric Perkowski has had a strong start to the year as well. They will look to carry that momentum into this weekend's lone contest against the Penguins.

Youngstown State will be coming off their opening match of the 2023 campaign, facing Butler on the road Friday afternoon in Indianapolis. Following their contest with Dayton Sunday, they will host Ashland as part of a double-header for them. During the 2022 season, the Penguins were 15-9 overall, but 8-0 in Horizon League play. YSU won their league title and advance to face Ohio State in the NCAA Championships.
