Women's Basketball Continues A-10 Play At Duquesne

The Flyers And Dukes Tip-Off At 6 p.m.

DAYTON - The University of Dayton women's basketball team continues Atlantic 10 play Thursday, Jan. 5 at Duquesne University at 6 p.m. in Pittsburgh.

SCOUTING THE FLYERS
Dayton rides a two-game winning streak to Pittsburgh after a win over Cedarville last week to end non-conference and a road win to start the conference portion of the schedule and the new year. The Flyers are 2-10 overall and 1-3 in away contests.

Head coach Tamika Williams-Jeter is in her first season in charge of her hometown Flyers, coming over after a year at Wittenberg. She has assistant coaching stops at Kansas, Kentucky, Penn State, and Ohio State.

As a team this year, the Flyers are averaging 65.0 points each contest and giving up 69.6 points to opponents. UD is shooting 41.3 percent overall, 33.2 percent from three point range, and 74.0 percent from the free throw line. Dayton has a +5.4 rebounding margin, but faces a -6.1 turnover margin.

Dayton is led by redshirt junior Destiny Bohanon with 12.2 points per game while senior Mariah Perez is contributing 10.7 points and 8.2 rebounds per game. Sydney Freeman leads the Flyers with 4.2 assists per outing as well as 9.7 points each contest.

SCOUTING DUQUESNE
Duquesne hosts the Flyers with a 10-4 record on the year and 8-1 home mark. The Dukes are 0-1 in A-10 games and looking for their first league victory. Duquesne has not last at home since Dec. 1 to Tulsa.

Head coach Dan Burt is in his 10th season in charge of the Dukes and has over 170 wins in his career.

As a team, the Dukes are scoring 70.3 points per game and holding opponents to just 61.4 points to opponents. Duquesne is shooting 41.0 percent from the field, 33.5 percent from behind the arc, and 73.2 percent from the charity stripe. The Dukes are outrebounding opposing teams by +3.4 as well.

Duquesne has four players averaging in double digits, led by Tess Myers with 13.5 points per game. Ayanna Townsend is chipping in 12.3 points each outing while Megan McConnell is a triple threat with 10.6 points, 9.9 rebounds, and 5.8 assists per game.

LAST TIME OUT
Dayton kicked off A-10 play with a 71-66 road win at George Mason New Year's Day. The Flyers led by as much as 11 in the second half and fended off a late Patriot come back to move to 1-0 in the conference.

Duquesne went on the road as well to begin their league slate, suffering a 70-63 loss at Rhode Island New Year's Eve. Prior to that contest, the Dukes had won five of the previous six games.

SERIES HISTORY
Dayton and Duquesne have met 46 times previously with the Flyers holding a narrow 25-21 advantage in the series. UD has won the last three match-ups and seven of the last eight. The Dukes did win the most recent contest in Pittsburgh back in 2018, 85-57.

STATISTICAL RANKINGS
As a team, Dayton ranks 47th in the nation in defensive rebounds per game and 54th in total rebounds. Individually, Mariah Perez ranks 27th in the country in offensive rebounds per game.
