DAYTON - The University of Dayton men's soccer team will travel to Fairfax, Va. Saturday, Oct. 14 to take on George Mason at 7 p.m. in Atlantic 10 action.
SCOUTING THE FLYERS
Dayton heads back out on the road with a 5-6-3 record overall and 2-1-2 A-10 mark. The Flyers are tied for fifth in the conference standings with Loyola Chicago and VCU. UD is still looking for its first road win of the season.
Head coach
Dennis Currier is in his 19th season in charge of the Flyers and was named Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year for the 2020 season.
As a team, the Flyers are averaging 1.79 goals per game and giving up 1.50 goals to opponents. Dayton is second in the nation in shots per game with 19.4 each outing and is 17th in the country in total goals.
The Flyers are led by sophomore
Joseph Melto Quiah with four goals and three assists on the season while graduate students
Hjalti Sigurdsson also has four goals and
Manny Day has a team-high five assists. Senior goalkeeper
Dario Caetano has 38 saves and three shutouts in 14 starts.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
GEORGE MASON
George Mason hosts Dayton with a 3-5-2 record on the year and 2-3 A-10 mark. The Patriots are on a two-game winning streak and are 2-2-1 at home this season. GMU has out-scored opponents 5-2 in the past two victories as well.
Head coach Rich Costanzo is in his second season with the Patriots and comes over to Mason after five seasons as an assistant at Pitt.
The Patriots are both scoring and allowing 1.50 goals per game. George Mason is being out-shot in contests 9.7 to 11.0, but at a higher on-goal percentage.
Leading the way for Mason is Souley Diouf with four goals and one assist on the season while Luis Maestre is the main distributor with a team-high six assists in 10 games, which ranks top 20 in the country. Goalkeeper Jaume Salvado has 29 saves and three shutouts in 10 starts between the posts.
LAST OUTING
Dayton got a brace from sophomore
Sidike Jabateh in the 2-1 victory over Northern Kentucky in the non-conference finale at Baujan Field Tuesday.
George Mason earned a hard-fought 1-0 win on the road at Duquesne last Saturday after scoring the game-winner in the 56th minute, despite being out-shot 17-9 by the Dukes.
SERIES HISTORY
Dayton and George Mason are split in the series history at 2-2-2 overall. The two teams last met in 2022 with the Flyers dominating at home 4-0.
LEADING THE NATION
Dayton enters the week as the No. 2 team in the nation in shots per game while also ranking No. 5 in corner kicks per game. The Flyers are top 30 in total goals, total assists, and total points as well.
UP NEXT
The Flyers have a midweek break before heading to No. 25 Saint Louis next Saturday, Oct. 21 for an 8 p.m. ET kickoff at Hermann Stadium.
