DAVIDSON, N.C. - The 19th-ranked University of Dayton volleyball team held off fifth-seeded Saint Louis, 3-1 (23-25, 25-13, 25-15, 27-15), in the Atlantic 10 Championship semifinals Saturday afternoon. Dayton will take on the winner of #2 Loyola Chicago/#3 VCU on Championship Sunday at Davidson's Belk Arena.
Dayton is now 30-2 on the season and will play in the program's 21st Atlantic 10 Championship finals match tomorrow. This is the Flyers' fifth 30-win season since the program joined NCAA Division I in 1984 and the first since 2016.
Saint Louis ends the 2023 season with an even 16-16 mark.
KEY STATS
53 - junior
Alyssa Miller was one off her career high with 53 assists to go with eight digs and four kills
20 - sophomore
Taylor Russell led three Flyers in double-digit kills with a career-high 20 to go with four blocks and four digs
18 & 22 - junior
Lexie Almodovar posted her 10th double-double of the season with 18 kills and a career-high-tying 22 digs in addition to her match-high three service aces
14 - senior
Amelia Moore recorded a season-high 14 kills and also had four blocks and four digs
12.0 - as a team, Dayton had 12.0 total blocks compared to Saint Louis' 4.0 total blocks
8 - junior
Alayna Yates posted eight blocks, including a career-high three solo blocks, while also adding six kills
Saint Louis - the Billikens' Kayla Richardson tallied 16 kills while Emily Henken recorded a 15-kill, 10-dig double-double
UP NEXT
Dayton will return to the Championship finals match tomorrow and will square off against the winner of today's second semifinal match between #2 Loyola Chicago and #3 VCU. First serve is set for 12 p.m. Sunday to determine the Atlantic 10's automatic bid for the 2023 NCAA Volleyball Tournament. The championship, hosted by Davidson, is being played at Belk Arena in Davidson, N.C.
