DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The University of Dayton women's basketball team opened up the 2023 Daytona Beach Invitational with a convincing 75-54 victory over Stetson University Friday afternoon.
The Flyers (3-3) dominated the majority of the game while the Hatters (1-5) continue their losing streak.
KEY MOMENT
Opening Three Minutes – Dayton jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the first three minutes of the contest and stayed on top the rest of the game.
GAME BREAKDOWN
1st Quarter: Dayton 21, Stetson 8
- The Flyers jumped out to a quick 8-0 lead in the opening three minutes with a basket by graduate student Mariah Perez and threes from junior Ivy Wolf and redshirt senior Destiny Bohanon.
- Stetson was forced to call a timeout after another Wolf three as Dayton held a 14-4 advantage with 4:45 to play in the quarter.
- The Hatters were held scoreless for 3:12 before ending their drought as the Flyer defense was making things difficult for them.
- Dayton shot 57 percent in the opening quarter and were 4-of-7 from three. The season high for a game this year is six in a contest.
- Wolf led the way with nine points, all from three-point range, while Bohanon had six points
2nd Quarter: Dayton 38, Stetson 24
- Wolf continued her shooting from deep in the second, hitting her fourth three to put UD up 26-11 with 7:44 on the clock.
- While the Flyers were on a 4-for-4 stretch, the Hatters went nearly four minutes without a field goal.
- At the midway point in the second, Dayton had doubled up Stetson with a 30-15 lead.
- Senior Anyssa Jones had a big second quarter with six straight points for the Flyers. Meanwhile Jamiya Turner had 11 straight points for the Hatters.
- UD shot 57 percent in the first half and held Stetson to just 36 percent. The Flyers were led by Wolf's 12 points and Bohanon's 10 points.
3rd Quarter: Dayton 57, Stetson 43
- The Flyers had a couple of early turnovers coming out of the locker room with neither team making a difference on the score in the opening stages of the second half.
- Wolf drilled her fifth bucket, all threes, and that tied a season high for the Flyers with 16 minutes still to play in the game. That was also a new career high for the junior guard as well.
- At the media timeout, Dayton led 48-30 while Bohanon and Wolf both had 15 points to lead the Flyers.
- Jones had rebounded her own miss and followed up with an and-one with 2:29 to play to give UD its first 20-point lead of the game.
- The third ended with both teams shooting well as the Flyers were 5-of-7 and Hatters were 4-of-5.
4th Quarter: Dayton 75, Stetson 54
- Stetson hit a three and a jumper to start the fourth and closed the gap to single digits at 57-48.
- By the media timeout, the Flyers got the margin back to 14 at 66-52 with Dayton already shooting free throws in the bonus.
- Wolf hit her seventh three of the game, forcing a Stetson timeout with 4:03 on the clock and Dayton up 19 points. She followed that up on the next possession with her eighth three.
- UD rode an 11-0 run over 2:53 seconds to extend its lead.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
20 – Dayton tied a season high with 20 assists in the win.
9 – The Flyers had a season-high nine threes, eight of which came from Wolf.

Ivy Wolf not only hit a career-high eight threes, but also helped the Flyers hit a season-high as well. It was the most for a Flyer since Erin Whalen achieved the mark on Dec. 20, 2021.
