Men's Soccer Heads To Loyola Chicago For The A-10 Championship Tournament

The Flyers and Ramblers Kick-off At 4 p.m. ET

DAYTON - The University of Dayton men's soccer team will open up the 2023 Atlantic 10 Championship tournament in the quarterfinals on Saturday, Nov. 4 at 4 p.m. against No. 3 seed Loyola Chicago on the road.

SCOUTING THE FLYERS
Dayton comes into this game with an overall record of 6-6-5 and a conference record of 3-1-4. The Flyers have a confident record at home with a 6-1-1 record.

Head coach Dennis Currier, now in his 19th season of leading the Flyers; coaching them to only one loss at home.

The Flyers are averaging 1.71 goals per game and keeping opponents to an average of 1.35 goals per game. Dayton impressively ranks third in the nation in shots per game and in the top 20 for shots on goal per game, making their offensive strategy one not to be reckoned with.

An impressive goal scorer for the Flyers is sophomore Joseph Melto Quiah with 13 points on four goals and five assists while senior Kenji Mboma Dem has 12 points on five goals. Senior goalkeeper Dario Caetano has four shutouts and 49 saves in 17 starts.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
LOYOLA CHICAGO

Loyola challenges Dayton with their 8-2-4 record  on the year, including their 4-1-3 A-10 conference record. The Ramblers stand second in the A-10 for their conference standings and hold a 4-2-1 record at home.

Ramblers head coach Steve Bode is only in his second season coaching Loyola. In his first year as head coach for the Ramblers he led them to be runner-ups in the A-10 Tournament and an undefeated record at home.

Loyola Chicago averages 2.07 goals per game and impressively kept their opponents at .93 goals per match-up.

Star players for the Ramblers include Oscar Dueso, who has scored 15 points in five games with five assists in the season. Markus Maurer also has two game winning goals out of the six goals he has scored this season. Goalkeeper Aidan Crawford had his highest number of saves this season of six, against Dayton on their last match-up.

LAST OUTING
Dayton clinched a spot in the postseason with a 3-1 win over UMass at home for Senior Night on Oct. 28. The Flyers scored all three goals in the second half including two within 25 seconds of each other. Mboma Dem provided the brace.

Loyola finished up the regular season with a 1-0 victory over Fordham at home on Oct. 28. Maurer scored the game-winning goal in the 85th minute as the Ramblers ended conference play on a positive note.

SERIES HISTORY
Dayton and Loyola have met eight times previously with the Flyers holding a 5-2-1 series advantage. Earlier this year at Baujan Field, the Flyers and Ramblers drew 3-3 with two of the top offensive attacks in the country going head-to-head.

SETTING THE STANDARD
Dayton enters the weekend as the No. 3 team in the nation in shots per game while ranking 17th in shots on goal per game and eighth in corner kicks per game. Individually, Caetano is third in the country in minutes played.

DAYTON IN POSTSEASON PLAY
The Flyers are heading to their 12th straight Atlantic 10 Championship tournament. The last time the Flyers missed out was back in 2011. Dayton also won the tournament title and NCAA tournament automatic bid in 2015.

If victorious, the Flyers will move on to the A-10 Semifinals Wednesday, Nov. 8.
