CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. - The University of Dayton softball team went 1-1 in its first two games of the Governors Classic on Saturday. Dayton shutout out UIC, 1-0, before falling to Belmont, 9-4, in eight innings. The weekend classic is being hosted by Austin Peay at Cathi Maynard Park.
Dayton closes out the day with a 7-10 mark on the season while UIC moves to 0-19 and Belmont is now 12-6.
GAME ONE
Dayton 1, UIC 0
7.0 - freshman
Izzy Kemp worked a complete game in the circle for Dayton, her fourth CG of the season
7 - Kemp recorded seven pitching strikeouts for the Flyers
4 - four different Flyers recorded a hit in the game
Winning Pitcher: Kemp (2-3), Losing Pitcher: Clark (0-7)
GAME TWO
Belmont 9, Dayton 4 (8 inn.)
4 - UD tallied four hits to score three runs in the bottom of the seventh to send the game to extras
3 - sophomore
Haven Dwyer collected a season-high three assists from the circle
2 - two Flyers recorded multi-hit games: junior
Taylor Erschen and senior
Emily Daniel
DP - Dayton turned two double plays in the game, including to get out of a bases-loaded jam in the top of the fifth
Winning Pitcher: Johnson (8-3), Losing Pitcher: Dwyer (4-2)
UP NEXT
Day two of the APSU Governors Classic will bring another game each against UIC and Belmont for Dayton. The Flyers and Flames are set to get underway at 11 a.m. ET followed by a rematch between Dayton and Belmont approximately 30 minutes following.
