DAYTON – The University of Dayton baseball team split its doubleheader with Saint Joseph's on Saturday afternoon, winning a slugfest in game one, 16-9, before falling in the nightcap 7-5 at Woerner Field at AES Ohio Stadium.

The two teams will play the rubber match of the series Sunday, May 7 at 1:30 p.m.

GAME ONE
Dayton 16 Saint Joseph's 9
The #FlyBoys' bats had their best performance of the season in game one, pounding out season-highs in hits and runs scored to win 16-9.

Dayton fell behind in the first frame but struck back with a four-spot in the home half of the inning, highlighted by a two-run home run from
Mason Dobie.
Â
Saint Joseph's struck back with a four-run frame of its own in the top of the next inning, but UD wasted no time taking the lead right back. Senior
Marcos Pujols launched his 10
th long ball of the campaign and 37
th of his career with two men aboard to give the Flyers a 7-5 lead.

After Dayton added a run in the fifth, the Hawks battled back to tie the game at 8-8 in the top of the seventh inning. The Flyers were not deterred, however, as they erupted for eight runs in the home half of the eighth to regain control of the contest.

UD pounded out nine hits in the inning, including a
Carlos Castillo two-run homer, to put the game out of reach.

Saint Joseph's 7 Dayton 5
Saint Joseph's jumped ahead in game two and held on late, as Dayton posed multiple threats but never got back to even, falling 7-5.

UD fell behind 3-0 in the first two innings and trailed 5-1 going into the home half of the fifth.
Ben Jones slugged his eighth home run of the season to bring the Flyers within two, and
Matt Maloney drove home a run an inning later to make it a 5-3 ballgame.

Mason Dobie continued his strong day with an RBI double in the seventh, pulling the FlyBoys with a run at 5-4, but the SJU offense proved to be too much, hitting a two-run homer an inning later to push the lead back to 7-4.

In the ninth inning, Dobie plated another run with an RBI single, but the rally was halted there.
