DAYTON - The University of Dayton volleyball team will play host to the 2023 Dayton Flyer Classic this weekend as Butler, North Dakota State and Ohio as set to take part in the two-day event. There will be a total of six matches contests in Frericks Center on UD campus Sept. 1-2, the second weekend of competition of the 2023 season, and admission is free.

ABOUT DAYTON
Dayton (2-1) opened the season with a 3-0 win over then-24th-ranked WKU and a 3-2 victory over Drake before falling 3-2 to then-12th-ranked Marquette last weekend at the Flyer Invitational. Junior Lexie Almodovar leads the team with 4.38 kills/set (36th NCAA) after recording 57 kills (12th NCAA) over the first three matches of the year. Senior Amelia Moore and junior Alayna Yates shared blocking duties at the net, averaging 1.23 blocks/set while junior Alyssa Miller served as the team's primary setter with 9.46 assists/set.

AVCA TOP 25 RANKINGS
After a gritty first weekend of play, including a straight-set sweep of then-24th-ranked Western Kentucky on Friday, Dayton received 34 votes in the Aug. 28 AVCA/Taraflex Top 25 Poll. Additionally, Atlantic 10 foe Loyola Chicago (23) also received votes in the poll.

FLYER FACTS
• Tim Horsmon is in his 15th season overall, and 10th since 2007, as head coach of the Flyers in 2022. His record at Dayton is 345-105 and his career win-loss mark sits at 521-269 in 24 seasons as a head coach. Horsmon is the program's winningest coach after surpassing R. Elaine Dreidame who amassed 310 wins 1970-79.
• Over the last 14 seasons (2009-2022), the Flyers have recorded a 180-20 (.900) mark in regular season Atlantic 10 Conference play, including a perfect 14-0 mark in 2016, 2015 and 2012, a 15-0 record in 2010 and a 16-0 mark in 2021. UD suffered only one conference loss in 2020, 2019, 2017, 2014, 2011 and 2009.
• Dayton has won the Atlantic 10 Regular Season title 15 times (2021, 2020, 2016, 2015, 2014, 2012, 2011, 2010, 2009, 2007, 2006, 2005, 2004, 2001, 1998). The Flyers have won the A-10 Championship title a league-record 15 times (2021, 2020, 2019, 2018, 2016, 2015, 2014, 2012, 2011, 2010, 2009, 2007, 2005, 2004, 2003).
• In the program's 16 NCAA Tournament appearances, Dayton has reached the Second Round nine times and the Flyers hold a 9-15 all-time record in NCAA tourney matches.
• During the 2014 season, Dayton surpassed the 1,000-win mark as a program to become just the 13th NCAA DI team to attain that level of success. The Flyers entered the 2023 season ranked 12th all-time in the Division I record book with an overall program tally of 1,213-621 (.661) over 53 seasons (1970).
• The Flyers finished the 2022 season with a 20-14 overall record and a 12-6 Atlantic 10 mark, finishing in third place in regular-season league play. 2022 was the program's 44th winning season.
