SAN DIEGO – The University of Dayton football team cut a 24-point deficit to eight points with the ball, but in the end the Flyers could not overcome a six-turnover game in a 40-25 loss at San Diego.
In following the turnover script, the Toreros put the game away on one of those turnovers, a 27-yard pick-six that were the only USD points of the second half.
GAME RECAP
1st Quarter – San Diego 14, Dayton 3
•   After an exchange of punts, San Diego put together a nine-play, 82-yard drive  to open the scoring.
•   USD took advantage of an interception thrown by Dayton to score its second touchdown, needing just two plays to go 58 yards.

Sam Webster put the Flyers on the board with a 38-yard field goal.
•   USD out-gained UD 153-31 in the quarter.Â
2nd Quarter – San Diego 33, Dayton 10
•   The Toreros' next two touchdowns came after Flyer fumbles in Dayton territory.
•   San Diego scored on drives of 23 yards and 34 yards to give them a 27-3 lead.
•   Dayton put together a 10-play, 75-yard drive to score its first touchdown. Â
Cole Dow ran the ball in from 20 yards.
•   USD came right back with a 74-yard scoring drive, aided by a roughing the passer penalty to make the halftime score 33-10.
•   The Toreros gained 139 yards, while the Flyers gained 110.
•   Dayton had an uncharacteristic first half, fumbling the ball six times (losing two) and throwing two interceptions.
3rd Quarter – San Diego 33, Dayton 17
•   UD created its own opportunity by blocking a punt deep in Torero territory, setting up a 15-yard pass from Dow to
Alec Keathley on the first play of the drive.
•   Dayton outgained San Diego 81 to 72 in the quarter.
4th Quarter – San Diego 40, Dayton 25
•   The Flyers made it a one-score game with 12:43 left in the game when they drove 80 yards in 11 plays. Â
Cole Dow scored his second touchdown of the game from the one, and when
Dante Casciola hit
Gavin Lochow on the two-point conversion, the margin was eight, 33-25.
•   The Dayton defense kept San Diego off the scoreboard, but the Toreros were able to chew up almost eight minutes off the clock, putting UD deep in its own territory.
•   On third-and-11 from its own 19, USD made the game-sealing play with the interception TD that made it 40-25.
•   Dayton moved the ball down to Torero 14, but fumbled forward on fourth down to end the threat.
BY THE NUMBERS

Michael Neel was Dayton's leading rusher (17 for 60 yards), with
Cole Dow right behind 10 for 57 and two TD).
•   Dow (4 of 9 passing for 76 yards, with 1 TD and three interceptions) and
Dante Casciola (6 of 16 passing for 56 yards) combined to go 10 for 25 for 132 yards through the air.

Derek Willits (3 catches for 48 yards) and
Joey Swanson (3 for 29) led the Flyers in receiving.

Aiden McKinley led Dayton with eight tackles (six solo).
•   Dayton is now 2-2 overall on the season, while San Diego, playing with their full roster for the first time all year, is 1-3.
