DAYTON - The University of Dayton men's soccer team returns to Atlantic 10 action this Saturday, Sept. 30 at 7 p.m. against St. Bonaventure at Baujan Field.
SCOUTING THE FLYERS
Dayton enters the contest with a 3-6-1 record overall and 1-1 A-10 mark. The Flyers are 3-1 at home this year and have won two straight at Baujan.
Head coach
Dennis Currier is in his 19th season in charge of the Flyers and was named Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year for the 2020 season.
As a team, the Flyers are averaging 1.80 goals per game and holding opponents to 1.60 goals each outing. Dayton ranks fourth in the nation in shots per game at 17.9 per game compared to opposing teams' 9.5 attempts. UD is also 21st in the country in total goals and fifth in corner kicks.
The Flyers are led by graduate student and defender
Hjalti Sigurdsson, who has team-highs of four goals and nine points. Sophomore
Joseph Melto Quiah has chipped in three goals and two assists for eight points while senior
Ousseynou Cisse and grad student
Manny Day have three assists each. Senior goalkeeper
Dario Caetano has 26 saves and two shutouts on the year.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
ST. BONAVENTURE
St. Bonaventure sits at 4-3-2 this season and 1-2-2 in road contests. The Bonnies are looking to bounce back from a tie at Robert Morris on Sep. 26 and face their second of a two-game road trip.
Head Coach Kwame Oduro is in his ninth season at the helm of the Bonnies and has led a resurgence in Bonnies men's soccer with six Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team selections, two United Soccer Coaches All-Region honorees and four A-10 Academic Team nods.
Overall, St. Bonaventure is scoring 1.78 goals each outing and allowing 1.33 goals to opponents. The Bonnies are averaging 12.1 shots per game at a .147 clip.
The Bonnies are led by Andres Javitt and Kenzo Brito with 12 and 10 points respectively. Javitt leads the Bonnies in goals with five and Brito has contributed three goals along with four assists. St. Bonaventure has used two goalkeepers this year with Jules Dechert totaling 38 saves in seven appearances.
LAST OUTING
Dayton battled Cleveland State in a gritty home match-up on Tuesday and held on for a 2-1 victory. First half goals by Sigurdsson and sophomore
Basit Umar was enough for the Flyers to end a two-game losing skid.
St. Bonaventure drew with Robert Morris on the road Tuesday 1-1. The Bonnies answered less than four minutes after the Colonials got the opening goal in the 55th minute and tied the contest that had nine yellow cards.
SERIES HISTORY
Dayton and St. Bonaventure have played 24 times previously with the Flyers holding a 14-8-2 advantage in the series. The two teams faced off last season on Oct. 5 in Olean with the game ending in a 1-1 draw.
SIGURDSSON NAMED DAYTON MALE STUDENT-ATHLETE OF THE WEEK TWICE
The University of Dayton Athletics Division chose its student-athletes of the week for Aug. 30 and recognized graduate student
Hjalti Sigurdsson as the College Sports Advantage Male Student Athlete of the Week for Dayton. He received the award again on Sept. 20 for his hat trick against Rhode Island.

The Flyers had a pair of student athletes recognized on the Ohio State Wolstein Classic All-Tournament Team. Grad student

Casper Svendby both picked up accolades for their efforts in games against UC Davis and CSUN.

The United Soccer Coaches announced their preseason Top Players to Watch and recognized Dayton sophomore
Basit Umar as one of the Top 25 male student-athletes to look out for, one of two A-10 honorees (Marc Torellas, Loyola).
UP NEXT
The Flyers will head back out on the road after the two-game home stretch to take on VCU Wednesday, Oct. 4 at 7 p.m. at Sports Backers Stadium in Richmond, Va.
