DAYTON - The University of Dayton volleyball team staved off a come-from-behind rally by UIC, 3-2 (25-17, 25-15, 27-29, 27-29, 15-7), Friday night at Frericks Center in the Flyers' first match of the Dayton Invitational. Play resumes tomorrow with three matches on the second day of the two-day event.
Dayton improves to 6-2 on the season while UIC moves to 6-3 overall.
KEY STATS
45 - junior
Alyssa Miller set 45 assists to go with a career-high eight blocks, six digs and four kills
24 - junior
Lexie Almodovar tallied 24 kills while swinging at .365 to with a career-high-tying six service aces, five digs and two blocks
19 - sophomore
Karissa Kaminski got under a match-high 19 digs, the fifth time this season she has posted 19 or more digs
15.0 - as a team, the Flyers recorded 15.0 total blocks led by senior
Amelia Moore with nine (1-8)
14 - Dayton served up a total of 14 aces compared to UIC's three
UIC - the Flames were led by Martina Delucchi with 26 kills and 11 digs
UP NEXT
UD will play two matches on Saturday, kicking off the day with a 1 p.m. matchup against Wright State and will close the weekend against Ball State at 7 p.m. In the first match of the day, Ball State and UIC will square off at 11 a.m. All matches will be played at Frericks Center and admission is free.
