DAYTON – The University of Dayton men's tennis program kicks off the 2024 spring campaign with a trip to Big Ten country for a pair of matches, taking on Indiana on Saturday, Jan. 13, and staying in the Hoosier State to square off with Purdue on Monday, Jan. 15.
UD and IU will start at 11 a.m. Saturday morning at the IU Tennis Center in Bloomington, Ind., while the Flyers and Boilermakers are set to begin at 12 p.m. Monday at the Schwartz Tennis Center in West Lafayette, Ind.
The Flyers enter the spring campaign after a successful fall, compiling strong performances at the ITA All-Americans, Regionals, and the Jame O'Connell Memorial Tournament, as well as winning the Cleveland State Viking Invitational.
Fifth-year
Connor Bruce highlighted the fall individually, putting together a remarkable 11-2 singles mark while teaming with fellow fifth-year
Nikola Puric to go 7-2 in doubles.
Also turning in impressive falls in singles were a trio of freshmen, as
Kyle McNally went 7-2,
Mikkel Zinder went 6-2, and
Luis Saraiva went 5-2.
Bruce and Saraiva were rewarded with national rankings from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) after their strong fall seasons, with Bruce earning the No. 81 spot and Saraiva slotting in at 113 after the fall campaign.
This weekend marks the second consecutive season that the Flyers have opened up the spring campaign with a trip to Indiana to take on the Hoosiers and Boilermakers. Last season UD split the pair, falling to IU to open the season, 4-1, but bouncing back to take down Purdue, 5-2.
