No. 15/18 Men's Soccer Hosts VCU Wednesday Night

The Flyers Look To Keep Their Winning Streak Alive With Two Games Remaining

DAYTON - The No. 25/18 University of Dayton men's soccer team returns home to host Virginia Commonwealth University on Wednesday, Oct. 30 at 7 p.m. at Baujan Field. The Flyers return home after two games on the road.

SCOUTING THE FLYERS
Dayton is riding a three-game winning streak and is 8-2-3 overall on the year and 3-1-2 in Atlantic 10 play. The Flyers are 3-2 at home and currently sit in sixth in the league standings.

Head coach Dennis Currier is in his 20th year at Dayton and is the winningest coach in program history. He ranks eighth among active Division I coaches in career wins.

Dayton averages 3.00 goals per game and holds opponents to 1.31 goals each outing. The Flyers boast one of the most dangerous attacks in the country, averaging 20.46 shots per game which ranks first nationally and is second in Division I in scoring offense.

Leading the way for the Flyers is sophomore Martin Bakken with eight goals and 22 points while graduate student Hjalti Sigurdsson has 18 points on seven goals and four assists.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
VCU

VCU sits at 12th in the league on a 1-3-2 record in A-10 games. The Rams are 4-5-6 overall and 1-3-3 in away games this season. VCU has drawn its last three games.

Head coach Dave Giffard is in his 15th season at the helm of the Rams.

As a team, VCU is scoring 1.13 goals each outing and giving up 1.20 goals to opposing squads. The Rams are matching opponents with .406 shots on goal percentage each game.

The main offensive threat for VCU is Andrey Salmeron and Papa Toure both with team highs of three goals and one assist, with a combined 14 points between the two players. The Rams goalkeeper is John Ermini starting all 15 games and 47 saves.

LAST OUTING
Dayton went on the road to North Carolina Saturday and dominated in a 5-1 win over the Wildcats. UD had five assists on five goals.

VCU  battled to a 1-1 draw with LaSalle on Saturday in Philadelphia. Goalkeeper John Ermini claimed five saves between the posts.

SETTING THE STANDARD
Dayton lead the country in shots per game while ranking second in scoring offense, third on shots on goal, and third in points per game.

Individually, Joseph Melto Quiah is fourth in the country in shots per game while Martin Bakken is 34th in total goals and 22nd in points.

UP NEXT
The Flyers finishes up the regular season at home Saturday, Nov. 2 at 7 p.m. against Saint Louis.
