Smith Nets Game-Winner For #UDWSOC, Flyers Advance To A-10 Semifinals

Dayton to Host Second-Lowest Remaining Seed After Saturday's Quarterfinal Matches

DAYTON - The University of Dayton women's soccer team has advanced to the semifinals of the 2024 Atlantic 10 Championship with its 1-0 win over #7 VCU at home Friday night. Freshman Laney Smith scored the game-winner for the Flyers, her team-high-tying ninth goal of the season, in the 11' to secure the victory.

Dayton improves to 14-3-2 on the season and advances to the A-10 Tourney semifinal round for the fifth-consecutive season. VCU closes out 2024 with a 4-9-5 overall mark.

KEY STATS
19 - Dayton doubled up VCU in the shots category, getting off 19 shots to the Rams' nine
8 - senior Noel Blain equaled her career high with eight shots in the match, three on goal
G - Smith's goal was her ninth of the season, tying Blain for the team's season-high
SO - the shutout was junior goalkeeper Batoul Reda's career-high 11th of the season
Win - Reda (14-3-2). Loss - Allison Karpovich (4-9-5).

UP NEXT
As at least the second-highest remaining seed, Dayton will host its semifinal match Wednesday, Nov. 6. The Flyers' opponent will be determined tomorrow following the completion of the second two quarterfinal matches. Kickoff will be 7 p.m. at Baujan Field.
