Women's Basketball Travels To No. 16 Duke Thursday

The Flyers Head Out On The Road For The First Time This Season

DAYTON - The University of Dayton women's basketball team heads out on the road for the first time this season as the Flyers take on No. 16/16 Duke University Thursday, Nov. 14 at 7 p.m. at Cameron Indoor Stadium.

SCOUTING THE FLYERS
Dayton is 2-0 on the season with wins over Southeast Missouri State and Delaware State at home. The Flyers are facing the Blue Devils in their only true road game of the non-conference slate and were 2-11 away from home last season.

Head coach Tamika Williams-Jeter is in her third season in charge of her hometown Flyers, coming over after a year at Wittenberg. She has assistant coaching stops at Kansas, Kentucky, Penn State, and Ohio State.

The Flyers are averaging 77.0 points per game and holding opponents to just 57.0 points each outing. Dayton is shooting 46.7 percent overall, 21.1 percent from three point range, and 65.3 percent from the free throw line. UD benefits from +14.5 rebounding and +1.5 turnover margins.

Dayton is led by senior Ivy Wolf with 16.0 points and 4.0 assists per game while junior Shantavia Dawkins is contributing 12.0 points each contest and senior Arianna Smith is averaging a double-double with 11 points and 10.0 rebounds.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
DUKE

No. 16/16 Duke hosts the Flyers while standing at a 2-1 record thus far. They are 1-0 defending their home court. The Blue Devils were 22-12 for the 2023-24 season.

Head coach Kara Lawson is in her fifth season at Duke. While being the leading lady of the Blue Devils, she has a 70- 34 record. Lawson is a women's basketball icon as she was named one of the 200 most influential people in women's basketball in the summer of 2020.

As a team, the Blue Devils are scoring 84.0 points each outing and holding opposing squads to 62.7 points. Duke is shooting 29.7 percent from the field and 6.0 percent from behind the arc. They are averaging 15.0 turnovers per game while their opponents are 25.3 per game.

Leading the way for Duke is Ashlon Jackson and Toby Fournier with 38.0 points each over their three games.

SERIES HISTORY
The Flyers and Blue Devils are meeting for the third time in program history. Duke was victorious in the last match-up on Nov. 12, 2021 at UD Arena, 70-56. The other meeting was Jan. 3, 1981 in a 99-78 home win for the Flyers.

FLYERS PICKED 11TH IN PRESEASON POLL
Dayton was picked to finish 11th in the 2024-25 Atlantic 10 preseason poll with 84 points. The Flyers were picked ahead of George Washington, Massachusetts, St. Bonaventure, and La Salle. Richmond was chosen as the preseason favorites, followed by Saint Joseph's, George Mason, and Davidson.

LOOKING AHEAD
Dayton's non-conference schedule features eight home games, one true road game, and two neutral site games. Besides hosting the likes of Providence and Vanderbilt, UD will travel to Duke on Nov. 14 and will participate in the Music City Classic in Nashville, Tenn.

LEADING THE CONFERENCE
Senior Arianna Smith led the A-10 in offensive rebounds, rebounds per game, total rebounds, and was second in double-doubles. She ranked eighth in the nation in offensive boards, 14th in rebounds per game, and 40th in total rebounds.

OFF TO A FAST START
Dayton had six players make their Flyer debut in the season opener this year and multiple players had stellar starts. Nicole Stephens scored 15 points to lead all scorers while Shantavia Dawkins had a career-high 12 points and Rikki Harris had 10 points and five rebounds. Molly O'Riordan, Ajok Madol, and Jayda Johnson all had an impact on the game as well.

Dayton returns home to host Tennessee State Sunday, Nov. 17 at 1 p.m. at UD Arena.
