No. 5/2 Men’s Soccer Advances To Sweet Sixteen With Win Over Michigan

The Flyers Had A Record Crowd And Earned First Third Round Berth Ever

DAYTON - The No. 5/2 University of Dayton men's soccer team moves on to the third round of the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history with a 2-0 win over Michigan.

The Flyers (14-2-3) keep their postseason alive while the Wolverines (9-5-7) end their season.

SCORING BREAKDOWN
  • 38:44 – First goal was scored on a header off a corner kick by senior Ethan Sassine with the assist going to graduate student Geni Kanyane.
  • 60:20 - Sassine scored his second goal of the match with the assists from graduate student Hjalti Sigurdsson and freshman Felix Buabeng.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Dayton outshot Michigan 27 to nine and put 11 on target to the Wolverines' three.
  • Graduate goalkeeper Dario Caetano and the UD defense recorded its fourth-straight shutout.
  • The Flyers were led by Sassine and fellow senior Joseph Melto Quiah with seven shots each while sophomore Martin Bakken added three shots.
  • The back four and Caetano played all 90 minutes in the contest.
  • Dayton had a 12-1 corner kick advantage.
  • The Flyers set a program record with 2,513 fans in attendance for the postseason match.

  • The Flyers will host SMU next Saturday, Nov. 30 at 7 p.m. at Baujan Field in the Sweet Sixteen.
