No. 5 Men's Soccer Hosts Davidson In A-10 Quarterfinals Friday

The No. 2 Seed Flyers and No. 7 Seed Wildcats Kick-Off At 7 p.m. At Baujan

DAYTON - The No. 5/12 University of Dayton men's soccer team hosts Davidson College in the Atlantic 10 Championship Quarterfinals Friday, Nov. 8 at 7 p.m. at Baujan Field.

SCOUTING THE FLYERS
Dayton finished the regular season with a 10-2-3 record and was runner-up in the A-10 with a 5-1-2 conference mark. The Flyers reached their highest ranking in program history this week at No. 5 in the United Soccer Coaches poll and is No. 12 in the Top Drawer Soccer Top 25.

Head coach Dennis Currier is in his 20th year at Dayton and is the winningest coach in program history. He ranks eighth among active Division I coaches in career wins.

Dayton is averaging 3.00 goals per game and holding opponents to 1.20 goals each outing. The Flyers have the No. 1 offense in the nation with 20.0 shots per game compared to opposing teams' 10.1 attempts.

Leading the way for the Flyers is sophomore Martin Bakken with eight goals, eight assists, and 24 points, all of which rank in the top five in the A-10. Senior Joseph Melto Quiah has chipped in seven goals and five assists while graduate defender Hjalti Sigurdsson has seven goals and five assists. Reigning and three-time A-10 Rookie of the Week Andrew Armstrong has seven goals in nine starts.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
DAVIDSON

Davidson comes to Dayton as the No. 7 seed in the league and finished the regular season with a 6-6-5 record and went 4-4-0 in league play. The Wildcats are 2-3-2 away from home this season and has not lost on the road since Oct. 19.  

Head coach Mike Babst is in his sixth season at the the helm of the Wildcats.

As a team, Davidson is matching opposing squads with 1.65 goals per game despite out-shooting opponents 14.2 to 11.4.

The Wildcats are led by Denis Krioutchenkov with five goals and seven assists with Nico Quanbeck contributing four goals and two assists. Goalkeeper Lucas Beltran has 47 saves and four shutouts in 16 starts this season.

LAST OUTING
Dayton finished the regular season with a thrilling 4-1 victory over rivals Saint Louis at home Nov. 2 to clinch the postseason homefield advantage. Senior Ethan Sassine scored a pair of goals to lead the way.

Davidson wrapped up its season with a 2-1 win on the road at Rhode Island, scoring the game-winning goal in the 87th minute to seal their postseason spot.

SETTING THE STANDARD
Dayton leads the country in shots per game and ranks second in goal differential, second in scoring offense, third in total goals, and fourth in total points and shots on goal.

Individually, Joseph Melto Quiah ranks fourth in the nation in shots per game while Martin Bakken is 19th in assists, 23rd in points, and 48th in goals.

FLYERS PICKED 3RD IN PRESEASON POLL
Dayton was picked to finish third in the A-10 Preseason Poll and received three first-place votes. The Flyers were chosen behind preseason favorites VCU and Saint Louis and ahead of Loyola Chicago, Fordham, and Massachusetts.

UP NEXT
If victorious, the Flyers will move on to host the A-10 Semifinals against an opponent to be determined.
