Box Score RICHMOND, Va. - The University of Dayton women's basketball team showed grit in the Atlantic 10 opener at the University of Richmond despite falling 55-37 Sunday.
The Flyers (6-6, 0-1 A-10) end the 2024 year on a defeat while the Spiders (10-4, 1-0 A-10) earned their 10
th win of the season.
GAME BREAKDOWN
1st Quarter: Dayton 8, Richmond 15
- The hosts got off to a fast start and jumped out to a 8-0 lead in the opening 2:30.
- Freshman Jayda Johnson put Dayton on the board with a deep three at the 6:09 mark.
- Midway through the quarter, the Flyers had narrowed the gap to 12-8 thanks to baskets by junior Nayo Lear and senior Ivy Wolf.
- The pace of the game slowed down for the next few minutes in Richmond's favor as UD went on a 4+ minute drought.
- The Flyers committed six turnovers over the final 4:39 of the first.
- Dayton shot 23 percent in the opening 10 minutes while Richmond shot 60 percent.
2nd Quarter: Dayton 10, Richmond 33
- The Spiders added to their lead in the first minute of the second, making it a 19-8 contest.
- The Flyers held Richmond in check for three minutes without a field goal.
- Graduate student Nicole Stephens hit a jumper with 6:05 on the clock to break UD's skid and put the visitors in double figures.

3rd Quarter: Dayton 24, Richmond 39
- Dayton was the first to strike in the second half with a drive and bucket from senior Arianna Smith.
- The Flyers scored the first five points of the quarter, closing the gap to 33-15 in the first two minutes.
- Richmond didn't score its first points of the half until the 5:58 mark.
- At the media timeout, Dayton trailed 36-17.
- The Flyers kept the pace up-tempo and the Spiders showed their tiredness during a 3+ drought of their own.
- Dayton pulled within 15 at 39-24 to end the third while Richmond was on a 1-for-9 stretch.
4th Quarter: Dayton 37, Richmond 55
- The Flyers kept up the physicality to start the fourth and made it tough for the Spiders to get any momentum.
- Dayton held Richmond without a field goal until the 5:30 mark in the quarter.
- By the media break, the Flyers trailed 48-31.
- The Spiders were able to hit their free throws down the stretch to earn the win.
