WACO, Texas – The No. 23-ranked University of Dayton volleyball advanced to the second round of the NCAA Volleyball Tournament with a four-set victory over South Carolina (25-20, 25-15, 24-26, 25-10) on Thursday evening at the Ferrell Center on the campus of Baylor University.

The win is the 11th NCAA victory in program history for the Flyers, and sets them up with a date against the winner of No. 4 seed Baylor and Wofford on Friday night at 8 p.m. ET.
UD jumped ahead with convincing victories in the first two sets, and after a tight third set to avoid a sweep, Dayton used a 12-0 run to bury the Gamecocks in the fourth and roll to a 25-10 win.
Dayton was led by its pin attack as redshirt seniors
Lexie Almodovar and
Brooke Smith finished the match 22 and 11 kills, respectively. Almodovar registered a double-double thanks to 12 digs, while Smith hit .476 in the match, leading all players. Senior setter
Alyssa Miller dished out 38 assists in the contest, while
Karissa Kaminski had a match-high 15 digs.
The Flyers had a dominant performance from the service line, with both Almodovar and junior
Emily Young registering four aces, and Kaminski adding a pair. In total, Dayton boasted an 11-4 advantage in aces for the match.
