DAYTON - The University of Dayton women's basketball team plays its third game in the last four on the road as the Flyers travel back to Philadelphia Wednesday to take on Saint Joseph's at 7 p.m. at Hagan Arena.
SCOUTING THE FLYERS
Dayton leaves town once again with a 10-14 record on the season and 4-9 Atlantic 10 mark. The Flyers are 2-8 in true road contests this season, but won their last game in Philadelphia with a victory over La Salle on Feb. 4.
Williams-Jeter is in her second season in charge of her hometown Flyers, coming over after a year at Wittenberg. She has assistant coaching stops at Kansas, Kentucky, Penn State, and Ohio State.
The Flyers are averaging 63.7 points per game and giving up 69.8 points to opponents. Dayton is shooting 40.3 percent overall, 29.4 percent from three point range, and 73.4 percent from the free throw line. UD is one of the top rebounding teams in the league with a +8.5 margin.
Leading the way for the Flyers is junior
Ivy Wolf with 11.5 points and 3.2 assists per game and redshirt senior
Destiny Bohanon with 11.2 points each outing.
SCOUTING SAINT JOSEPH'S
Saint Joseph's is having one of its best seasons in program history with a 22-2 record on the year and 11-1 A-10 mark. The Hawks are undefeated on the road and 10-2 at home this season.
Head coach Cindy Griffin is in her 23rd season at her alma mater with 440 career wins on her resume.
As a team, Saint Joseph's is scoring 67.1 points each contest and holding opposing squads to just 53.5 points per game, ranking fifth in the country in that category. The Hawks are also shooting 45.1 percent from the field, 35.3 percent from behind the arc, and 80.1 percent from the charity stripe, fourth-best in the nation.
The Hawks are powered by the all-conference duo of Talya Brugler with 16.6 points per game and Laura Ziegler with 14.7 points and 10.0 rebounds each outing. Ziegler also ranks fourth in Division I in defensive rebounding.
SERIES HISTORY
The Flyers and Hawks have met 35 times previously with Dayton holding a 21-14 series advantage. Saint Joseph's won the contest last year at UD Arena, 74-62.
LAST TIME OUT
Dayton dropped a 74-50 contest at home Sunday to George Mason. The Flyers and Patriots were tied after the first quarter, but the visitors outscored the hosts 19-10 in the second.
Mariah Perez led UD with her third double-double of the year.
Saint Joseph's faced George Mason in its last game as well on the road last Thursday. The Hawks earned a 59-47 victory over the Patriots despite scoring single digits in two of the four quarters. Three Saint Joseph's players scored in double figures led by Laura Ziegler's 19 points and 14 boards.
LEADING THE CONFERENCE
Junior
Arianna Smith currently leads the A-10 in offensive rebounds, rebounds per game, total rebounds, and double doubles. She ranks fifth in the nation in offensive boards, ninth in rebounds per game, and 10th in total rebounds.
FIALA NAMED A-10 ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Dayton freshman center
Eve Fiala was named A-10 Rookie of the Week on Feb. 5 after averaging 13.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game in contests against Saint Louis and La Salle.
UP NEXT
The Flyers head into a bye weekend before returning to action home on Wednesday, Feb. 21 at 7 p.m. against Davidson College.
