Dayton Splits Doubleheader, Wins Series Against Lindenwood

Nolan Watson And Ivan Arias Each Registered 3-Hit Days

DAYTON - The University of Dayton baseball team split Sunday's doubleheader against Lindenwood at Woerner Field at AES Ohio Stadium, winning game one 6-3, but falling in dramatic fashion in the nightcap, 6-5.

The day's first game included an offensive showcase from graduate student Nolan Watson, who went 3-for-4 with a single, double, and triple. It's the first three-hit game for the Flyers this season and Watson's second career triple.

Game two saw sophomore Alejandro Cazorla and freshman Ryan MacDougall hit the FlyBoys' first and second home runs of the season, but it proved to not be enough fire power to push UD to victory.

GAME ONE
Dayton 6, Lindenwood 3

Lindenwood built an early 3-0 lead through the first three innings, but the Flyers answered by scoring in three consecutive innings and held Lindenwood scoreless for the remainder of the game.

Junior David Pedanou got the Flyers on the scoreboard with a two-out, RBI single in the bottom of the third. In the following inning, MacDougall drove in two runs with a bases loaded knock to right field, and Cazorla put the FlyBoys ahead for good with a sacrifice fly a batter later.

Watson came to the plate in the fifth inning and tripled in a run, and junior Mason Dobie drove home Watson on a fielder's choice.

Graduate student Anthony Hattrup anchored Dayton's pitching staff in the first game, tossing 3.1 scoreless innings and earning the win, while senior Nick Wissman secured his second save of the year.

BY THE NUMBERS
1.000 - The Flyers were perfect 3 for 3 when there was a runner on third with less than two outs
10 - UD pitching stranded 10 baserunners
8 - hits in the game for the FlyBoys
3 - hits for Watson, the first three-hit game for Dayton this season
1.2 - Innings thrown by Wissman in his second save of the season

GAME TWO
Dayton 5, Lindenwood 6
UD jumped out to an early lead thanks to two unearned runs in the first inning, but the Lions tied the game with two runs of their own in the second.

The Flyers answered with their first home run of the season off Cazorla's bat, but in the next half inning Lindenwood tied the game on an RBI triple.

MacDougall's first collegiate home run in the fourth inning gave the FlyBoys the lead once again, and in the bottom of the seventh UD extended its advantage courtesy of sophomore Ivan Arias' RBI single.

The top of the ninth proved to be the Flyers undoing, however, as Lindenwood scored three runs on three hits and a pair of walks to take a 6-5 lead. Dayton rallied in the ninth getting two runners aboard and in scoring position, but the Lions secured the final out before UD could score.

6 - strikeouts for Dayton starter Ryan Packard
3 - hits for Ivan Arias
