Sunday Sweeps! #UDMTEN Brushes Aside USI and IUPUI

UD Won 5-0 And 7-0 On The Busy Sunday

MIAMISBURG, Ohio - The University of Dayton men's tennis team picked up a pair of wins via sweeps Sunday, turning aside Southern Indiana by a 4-0 final and IUPUI by a 7-0 tally at the South Regency Tennis Center.

UD started the day with an impressive showing against USI, taking care of the doubles point thanks to wins at No. 2 (Eric Perkowski and Mikkel Zinder) and No. 3 (Eric Suk and Luis Saraiva). 

The Flyers then cruised with dominating wins at No. 5, No. 6 and No. 1. Fifth-year Nikola Puric got the first victory for UD with a 6-0, 6-1 result at No. 5, and senior Ronit Hiryur put Dayton on the verge of clinching with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 6. Fifth-year Connor Bruce clinched the match at No. 1 with a 6-0, 6-2 victory.

Dayton used the momentum from the morning's win to jumpstart its second match against IUPUI, this time taking wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles to win the first point of the match. Bruce and Puric teamed up at No. 1 to cruise to a 6-2 victory, while Perkowski and Zinder picked up another win at No. 2 by a 6-2 final.

On the singles side, UD dominated IUPUI, winning in straight sets from No. 1 to No. 6 in the lineup. Bruce won 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1, and fellow fifth-year Matt DeMarco won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2. Zinder won his seventh consecutive match with a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 3, and fellow freshman Kyle McNally won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 4. The third freshman of the Flyers' lineup, Luis Saraiva, won 7-5, 6-3 at No. 5, and sophomore Sai Dore took home a win at No. 6, 6-2, 7-5.

The Flyers return to action Friday, Feb. 9 for another doubleheader, taking on Cedarville at 10 a.m. and turning around to take on Marquette at 6 p.m. at South Regency Tennis Center. Dayton opens Atlantic 10 play Sunday, Feb. 11 with an 11 a.m. match against Richmond.
