BRONX, N.Y. - The University of Dayton women's basketball team played its second-straight game on the road and suffered a 70-48 defeat at the hands of Fordham.
The Flyers (10-13, 4-8 A-10) drop their eighth conference game of the season while the Rams (8-15, 3-9 A-10) earned their eighth win overall on the year.
KEY MOMENT
Q3 – 7:31 to 2:58 – Fordham used a 16-3 run in the third to pull ahead by double digits and held on the rest of the way.
GAME BREAKDOWN
1st Quarter: Dayton 9, Fordham 14
- Fordham scored on the opening possession to take the initial lead, but redshirt senior Destiny Bohanon answered with a three to put Dayton ahead.
- Bohanon scored the first five points for the Flyers in the opening four minutes.
- By the media break, the Rams held a narrow 8-7 lead over the Flyers with 4:54 on the clock.
- Fordham go the margin to five at 14-9 with just under a minute to play in the first quarter.
- Graduate student Mariah Perez had four points while Bohanon led the way with five points.
2nd Quarter: Dayton 21, Fordham 27
- Junior Ivy Wolf drilled a three to start the second and closed the gap to two points.
- Defensively, the Flyers drew two charges on the Rams' first two possessions. Fordham didn't get its first points of the second until the 6:35 mark.
- Dayton was forced to call a timeout with 5:34 to go as Fordham was on a 6-0 run during a 4:16 UD drought.
- A layup by Perez ended the Dayton skid with 4:18 to go, but a three by Fordham gave the hosts a double-digit advantage.
- Dayton trailed at the half, 27-21, despite outrebounding Fordham 23-20.
3rd Quarter: Dayton 34, Fordham 50
- Dayton closed the gap to four at 29-25 with free throws by junior Arianna Smith at the 7:31 mark. She had already reached double digit rebounds by that point as well.
- The Rams got the lead back to double figures by the media break, 35-25.
- Out of the timeout, Fordham hit a pair of threes to take its biggest lead of the game at 16, capping off a 14-0 run.
- Bohanon became the first Flyer in double digits scoring.
4th Quarter: Dayton 48, Fordham 70
- Dayton looked to get things going in the fourth and got a jumper from sophomore Nayo Lear and a three from Bohanon in the first two and a half minutes.
- Smith became the second Flyer in double figures with her 11th point to go with 13 rebounds.
- In the end, Dayton just didn't have enough time and Fordham continued to control the tempo as the Flyers fell on the road.
