Softball Splits With Mason On First Day Of Conference Action

Dayton Claimed a 3-0 Shutout in Game One, Fell to Mason 6-4 in the Nightcap

FAIRFAX, Va. - The University of Dayton softball team split its opening Atlantic 10 Conference doubleheader at George Mason Saturday. Behind a complete game with eight strikeouts by sophomore pitcher Izzy Kemp, the Flyers shut out the Patriots, 3-0, in game one. In the nightcap, Mason was able to come from behind to clip Dayton by a score of 6-4.

Dayton is now 11-9 on the season and 1-1 in A-10 actin while George Mason is 8-17 overall and also 1-1 in league play.

KEY STAT
With her two stolen bases in game one, graduate student Emily Daniel surpassed former Flyer Molly Meyer (66) as the all-time program leader in career stolen bases with 67.

CG - Kemp's seven-inning outing was her sixth complete game, three of which have been shutouts, on the season
11 - as a team, the Flyers drew a season-high 11 walks
8 - Kemp, a right-handed pitcher, recorded eight strikeouts, her sixth game this year with six or more Ks
2 - Daniel, Dayton's everyday left fielder, tallied two RBI, two stolen bases, two walks and two putouts

H - junior Maddie Kapsimalis' single in the first inning extended her reached-base streak to a team-best 11 games
SB - three different Flyers collected a stolen base in the game, including junior Emma Schutter who now has 63 career SBs in her third year as a Flyer
2 - reigning A-10 Rookie of the Week Kirnan Bailey went 2-for-4 at the plate, her team-high-tying fifth multi-hit game of the season, with two runs scored
Win - K. Wilkerson (3-3). Loss - Sarah Bailitz (2-3). Save - None.
