#FlyBoys Come Up Short in Finale at SLU, 8-5

Freshman David Mendez Had His First Career Four-Hit Game

ST. LOUIS – The University of Dayton baseball team came up short in its series finale against Saint Louis on Sunday, falling 8-5 to the Billikens at the Billiken Sports Center.

UD got on the board first with three runs in the first two innings, but SLU battled back scoring six unanswered runs to take a lead it would never let go.

The Flyers had baserunners in all but one inning in the game, out-hitting the Billikens 12-10 but leaving 10 men stranded on base.

Dayton inched closer with a run in the fifth, but Saint Louis bounced right back for two more in the home half of the frame. The Flyers scored one more in the sixth inning, but would never get any closer.

Freshman David Mendez had a four-hit performance at the plate and drove in a pair of runs, while sophomores Alejandro Cazorla and Ivan Arias also had multi-hit games (both going 2-for-4).

Senior Anthony Hattrup was a bright spot on the mound for the FlyBoys, throwing a season-high 3.2 innings and allowing just one hit and one walk, neither of which advanced past first base.
