TYSONS, Va. – The University of Dayton baseball saw its season come to an end at the hands of George Washington on Thursday afternoon, falling 9-1 to the Revolutionaries at Capital One Park.
The FlyBoys finish the season with a 33-22 overall record, the Atlantic 10 Pitcher of the Year (
Nick Wissman) and the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year (
David Mendez).
Â
Just like last night's game, UD scored the first run of the game thanks to an
Alejandro Cazorla RBI single that drove home
Eddie Yamin IV, but it was all Revs after that.
GW evened the score at 1-1 in the home half of the second, then scored eight unanswered runs, including back-to-back three-run frames in the third and fourth.
Â
Cazorla was the lone Flyer to register a two-hit game, going 2-for-3. Yamin reached base twice (one hit, one walk) and scored Dayton's only run.
Â
Wissman did the heavy lifting for the pitching staff in the game, going four innings and allowing two earned runs.
Â
BY THE NUMBERS
.342 – team-leading batting average for both
Eddie Yamin IV and
David Mendez
33 – most wins for the Flyers in the
Jayson King era
2.93 – final ERA for
Nick Wissman
