No. 25 Men's Soccer Battles No. 9/8 Western Michigan In Columbus Wednesday

The Two Nationally Ranked Teams Face Off At Historic Crew Stadium At 6 p.m.

DAYTON - The University of Dayton men's soccer team will face its first ranked opponent on Wednesday as the Flyers battle No. 4 Western Michigan at Historic Crew Stadium up the road in Columbus. Kick-off is at 6  p.m. ET.

SCOUTING THE FLYERS
Dayton heads into the week with a three-game winning streak and sits are 4-1 on the year. The Flyers are 2-0 in neutral site contests and ranked in the Top 25 for the first time this season at No. 25. Technically, the match will count as a home game for UD.

Head coach Dennis Currier is in his 20th year at Dayton and is the winningest coach in program history. He ranks eighth among active Division I coaches in career wins.

Dayton is averaging 2.80 goals per game and holding opponents to just 1.00 goal each outing. The Flyers lead the nation in shots per game with 20.4 compared to the 8.8 attempts by opposing squads. Dayton is also shooting at a higher percentage and has a +17 corner kick differential.

Leading the way for UD is junior Joseph Melto Quiah with seven points on two goals and three assists on the year while senior Ethan Sassine and sophomore Martin Bakken have three goals each through five games. Graduate student goalkeeper Dario Caetano has 10 saves and two shutouts while playing every minute the past three seasons.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
WESTERN MICHIGAN

No. 4/8 Western Michigan enters the contest on a 28-game unbeaten streak and holds a 5-0-2 record this season. The Broncos have advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16  and earned conference championships the past two seasons.

Head coach Chad Wiseman is in his 12th season at the program and has taken WMU to new heights in his tenure. He recently became the winningest coach in program history this season.

The Broncos are another dangerous offensive team, leading Division I in total assists, ranking fourth in total points, and ninthe in total goals. WMU averages 2.43 goals per game, 21st in the country, while holding opposing teams to just 0.71 goals each outing.

Owen Smith is the nation's leader in assists with six on the year to go with two goals for 10 points. Greyson Mercer leads the Broncos with 11 points, scoring a team-high four goals and adding three assists. Golakeeper Colin Welsh ranks second in the nation in minutes played while recording 23 saves and two shutouts.

LAST OUTING
Dayton went on the road to eight-time national champions Indiana Monday night and earned a 2-0 shutout victory over the Hoosiers, ending their 14-game home winning streak. Martin Bakken scored a brace in the contest.

Western Michigan opened up Missouri Valley Conference play on Sunday at Belmont with a 1-1 draw on the road. The Broncos trailed just before halftime, but were able to get the equalizer in the 65th minute.

SETTING THE STANDARD
Dayton leads the nation in shots per game at 20.4 per contest and ranks top 20 in shots on goal, total goals, goal differential, and corner kicks per game.

Individually, Joseph Melto Quiah ranks fifth in the country in shots per game and 33rd in assists.

A-10 RECOGNIZES FLYER DUO
The Atlantic 10 honored a pair of Flyers with weekly awards on Sept. 16. Graduate student Dario Caetano was named A-10 Defensive Player of the Week while sophomore Martin Bakken was named A-10 Offensive Player of the Week.
