RICHMOND, Va. – Freshman
Ky Hau-Golden scored a pair of goals and the University of Dayton women's soccer team rolled to a 4-0 victory over VCU on Sunday afternoon at Sports Backers Stadium.
The win improves Dayton's record to 8-3-2 on the season and 5-0 in the A-10. The Rams fall to 4-8-2 and 2-3 in the conference.
Senior
Kyra Karfonta started the scoring early, getting the Flyers on the board in the sixth minute off a feed from fellow senior
Karli Ferguson.
After play evened up throughout the rest of the half, senior
Molly Russell connected a beauty of a pass with freshman
Ky Hau-Golden in the 43rd minute. Hau-Golden smashed a shot past the keeper to put the Flyers up 2-0 and score the first goal of her career.
The second half saw the offense kick up on both sides, but it was Dayton that found the back of the net in the 81st minute. Freshman
Caroline Schork scored an "Olympico" off the Flyers' eighth corner of the match.
With time running out in the match, Hau-Golden knocked home her second goal of the match off an assist from
Laney Smith to give the Flyers the 4-0 victory.
Dayton's defense continues to shine as the Flyers posted their 10th shutout of the season and fifth of Atlantic 10 play in the victory. It marked senior keeper
Batoul Reda's 37th career shutout, and was the sixth consecutive clean sheet for the Flyers' defense of
Caroline Schork,
Bre Mendoza,
Lauren Fields,
Ella Raimondi, and
Kyra Karfonta. Reda stopped all three shots the Rams sent her way.
The final shot total came out in Dayton's favor 23-6 overall and 10-3 in shots on goal. UD also had eight corners to VCU's one.
