#UDMBB Comes Up Short At Cincinnati, 74-62

Amaël L’Etang Led Three Flyers In Double-Digit Scoring With 14 Points

CINCINNATI, Ohio – The University of Dayton men's basketball team could not overcome a slow start against the University of Cincinnati on Tuesday night, coming up short 74-62 at Fifth Third Arena.

The Flyers (2-1) came out of the gate slow and never recovered, falling behind by double-digits in the first 10 minutes of the contest. UD chipped away and got the score within seven at the break, but a big second-half run from the Bearcats (3-0) proved too much.

Sophomore Amaël L'Etang led the Flyers with 14 points and eight boards, while junior De'Shayne Montgomery had 13 points and eight rebounds of his own. Senior Javon Bennett also scored 12 points while fellow senior Jordan Derkack scored a UD-best nine points on the game. Senior Keonte Jones had seven points, seven rebounds, three steals and two blocks.

Dayton's defense kept the Flyers in the game, forcing the Bearcats into 24 turnovers in which UD scored 25 points. Cold shooting from downtown ultimately doomed the Flyers, as they shot just 2-for-26 from three while Cincinnati made nine of 19 from downtown.
