DAYTON – The University of Dayton men's basketball team heads to Orlando to take part in the 2025 ESPN Events Invitational, squaring off with RV Georgetown as part of the "Magic Bracket" on Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. at HP Field House.
No. 9 BYU and Miami (Fla.) make up the rest of the Magic Bracket and will play following the Flyers and Hoyas on Thursday night.
Â
UD (5-1) has won three straight games after cruising past NC Central on Saturday afternoon, 74-55. Georgetown (5-0) is coming off a 92-75 win over Wagner on Saturday and already boasts wins over Kentucky, Clemson and Maryland this season.
Junior
De'Shayne Montgomery scored 17 points to lead four Flyers in double figures against NCCU, leading to UD's first A-10 Player of the Week honor.
Â
Dayton and Georgetown have played one another three times in program history, with the Hoyas holding a 2-1 lead all-time.
This year's ESPN Events Invitational will be the first meeting between the two since playing in the Elite Eight in the 1984 NCAA National Tournament.
Dayton finished the 1983-84 regular season with back-to-back wins, beating Notre Dame by 10 at home, then squeaking out a 64-63 win over Old Dominion. That strong finish helped the Flyers, who were 6-6 in January, make the 1984 tournament as a No. 10 seed.
