CARY, N.C. - The University of Dayton baseball team dropped both games of a doubleheader to start the 2025 campaign on Friday, falling 5-2 and 13-3 to Monmouth at the USA Baseball National Training Complex.
Sophomore newcomer
Michael DiMartini was a bright spot for the Flyer offense, doubling and scoring a run in the first game and slugging UD's first home run of the season in the second.
Redshirt sophomore
Bobby Stang also had two hits on the day.
GAME ONE
Monmouth 5, Dayton 2
For the second consecutive season, Dayton scored the first run of the NCAA Division I season, as the Flyers wasted no time in plating the first run of the campaign.
DiMartini doubled in UD's first at-bat of the spring campaign, and redshirt junior
Alejandro Cazorla drove him in with a single in the next at-bat. Stang added another with an infield single two batters later, but the Flyer offense was held in check the rest of the day.

Chris Peguero got the start for Dayton and pitched five innings. The Boston, Mass. native allowed just one earned run and struck out three. Junior
Jackson Judy threw the last two innings for the Flyers, surrendering one hit and striking out one.
UD's defense committed five errors in the contest leading to three unearned runs for the Hawks.

GAME TWO
Monmouth 13, Dayton 3
Monmouth jumped ahead with a pair of runs in second and followed it up with a five spot in the third. The Hawks added another in the fourth before Dayton struck in the seventh.
An error kept gave the Flyers an extra at-bat in the seventh and Dayton capitalized. Back-to-back two-out singles by sophomore
Martin Howell and junior
Dyrenson Wouters scored Stang and sophomore
Adin Zorn.
DiMartini slugged his first homer as a Flyer in the eighth, but that was it for UD in the game.

Dayton returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 15 at 9:30 a.m. for another doubleheader, this time against Western Michigan, at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, N.C.
