RICHMOND, Ky. - The University of Dayton softball team split its games Saturday on day two of the Colonel Classic hosted by Eastern Kentucky. Dayton bested UIC, 9-8, in game one before falling to Akron, 8-4, in game two.
Dayton is now 7-5 on the season. UIC was 4-13 after today's first game and Akron moved to 10-7.
GAME ONE
Dayton 9, UIC 8
3 - junior
Molly Grace equaled her career high with three RBI to go with two walks, eight putouts and one assist on the day
3 - senior
Emma Schutter scored three of the Flyers' nine runs
2 - three Flyers tallied multi-hit games including senior
Chloe Wong whose RBI-single in the seventh scored the game winner
2 - three Flyers posted multi-RBI games highlighted by sophomore
Deirdre Flaherty's two-run homer in the sixth
Win -
Haven Dwyer (3-1). Loss - Whorley (2-6). Save - None.
GAME TWO
Akron 8, Dayton 4
10 - Grace tallied a season-high 10 putouts
2 - senior
Maddie Kapsimalis recorded two hits, her team-best sixth multi-hit game of the season
HR - for the second time in as many games, Flaherty knocked out a home run. She was 2-for-2 with three RBI and two walks
Win - Ma. Lee (3-2). Loss -
Camrynn Linneman (0-2). Save - M. Jamrog (1).
UP NEXT
Dayton will close out the weekend with two more games at the Colonel Classic Sunday. The day will get started at 10:30 a.m. with a game against UIC and Dayton will square off against host Eastern Kentucky at 3:30 p.m. All games are played at Gertrude Hood Field.
