RICHMOND, Ky. - The University of Dayton softball team wrapped up play at the Colonel Classic Sunday with a 4-1 win over UIC before falling to host Eastern Kentucky, 5-2, in the nightcap. Dayton finished the weekend with a 3-2 record.
On the season, Dayton is now 8-6 overall. UIC moved to 4-15 and Eastern Kentucky is now 13-5.
GAME ONE
Dayton 4, UIC 1
H - seven different Flyers recorded a hit in the game including freshman
Juliana Gonzalez whose two-RBI single in the fourth plated what proved to be the winning run
2B - junior
Molly Grace and sophomore
Kirnan Bailey each tallied a double in the contest
CG - junior pitcher
Izzy Kemp worked the complete game in the circle, her third CG of the season
Win - Kemp (4-1). Loss - McIntosh (2-7). Save - None.
GAME TWO
Eastern Kentucky 5, Dayton 2
2 - two Flyers posted multi-hit games including senior
Emma Schutter who has a team-high-tying six for the season
A - sophomore catcher
Deirdre Flaherty tallied a career-high-tying three assists
CG - senior pitcher
Haven Dwyer went the distance in the circle, her first complete game of the year
Win - M. Rutan (4-3). Loss - Dwyer (3-2). Save - T. Vigansky (1).
UP NEXT
Dayton is set to open the home portion of its 2025 schedule next week with a a single game against Miami (Ohio) March 5. Wednesday's game against the RedHawks is a rematch of the pair's May 18, 2024 NCAA Regional game when Miami downed Dayton, 4-0, eliminating the Flyers from national postseason play. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. at UD Softball Stadium and admission is free.
