KINGSTON, R.I. - The University of Dayton softball team split its Saturday Atlantic 10 doubleheader at Rhode Island, picking up the 9-5 win in game one before being edged 2-1 in the finale. Sophomore
Deirdre Flaherty was 4-for-7 at the plate on the day, including a grand slam in the first game.
Dayton is now 13-10 overall and 4-1 in A-10 games while Rhode Island moves to 6-14 on the season and 2-3 in league action.
GAME ONE
Dayton 9, Rhode Island 5
7 - for the third time in her last four outings, junior pitcher
Izzy Kemp tallied seven strikeouts
4 - Flaherty collected a career-high four RBI on her first career grand slam home run
HR - senior
Maddie Kapsimalis also knocked out a home run, a two-run shot in the sixth
Win - Kemp (7-3). Loss - Hibbard (1-8). Save - None.
GAME TWO
Rhode Island 2, Dayton 1
14 - junior
Molly Grace tallied a season-high 14 putouts at first base
2 - freshman
Camrynn Linneman was a perfect 2-for-2 with one walk at the plate, her first career multi-hit game
BB - after drawing a walk in the first inning, senior
Emma Schutter extended her reached-base streak to 13 games
Win - Zaun (1-3). Loss -
Haven Dwyer (4-3). Save - None.
