WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California has granted final approval to a settlement in the House v. NCAA (
"House") litigation. This landmark settlement – agreed to by plaintiffs representing nearly 400,000 current and former student-athletes and the NCAA – will reshape the college sports landscape. It will pave the way for a model prioritizing fairness, stability, integrity, and opportunity for student-athletes and institutions.
"The settlement represents a step in the right direction, an important move toward restoring accountability and structure to a broken system that has lost the trust of many," said UD Vice President/Director of Athletics
Neil Sullivan. "While this approval marks significant progress, we recognize it is not the finish line. We remain hopeful that accountability does not end with the settlement's approval, but begins with defendant conferences fulfilling its terms and transforming words into meaningful and lasting change. We're ready to meet the moment and aggressively move forward with our fans and community by our side."
"Approving the agreement reached by the NCAA, the defendant conference and student-athletes in the settlement opens a pathway to begin stabilizing college sports," stated NCAA President Charlie Baker. "This new framework that enables schools to provide direct financial benefits to student-athletes and establishes clear and specific rules to regulate third-party NIL agreements marks a huge step forward for college sports."
