DAYTON - The 12th-ranked University of Dayton men's soccer team is set to open the 2025 season at home Thursday as it plays host to Detroit Mercy. The Flyers and Titans are scheduled to get underway at 7 p.m. at Baujan Field and admission is free.

ABOUT DAYTON
No. 12 Dayton (0-0-0, 0-0-0 A-10), who finished the 2024 season ranked 12th nationally, is looking to build off the program's historic season that included an appearance in the third round of the College Cup. The Flyers return Martin Bakken, who led the Flyers' offense with nine goals and 10 assists, along with Andrew Armstrong and Ethan Sassine, each of whom scored eight goals a year ago, in addition to Miles Bonham, Cooper Lijewski and Braden Seel who started all 20 matches last season. Twelve newcomers have joined the Flyers squad this season. 

SCOUTING DETROIT MERCY
Detroit Mercy (0-0-0, 0-0-0 Horizon) has 22 returners paced by 2024 #HLMSOC All-League Third-Team selection Guershom Sylvain, who led the team in goals (7) and points (15). The defense will be anchored by Spencer Powe, who appeared in 14 games with seven starts and recorded his first career assist against RMU (11/1). Detroit Mercy has a diverse group of eight newcomers, which includes five transfers. UDM was picked to finish ninth with 32 points in the 2025 Under Armour #HLMSOC Preseason Poll.

Dayton Leads, 9-1-1
The Flyers and Titans also kicked off the 2024 season at Baujan Field as Dayton claimed the 5-1 win over Detroit Mercy. Returning players Felix Buabeng, Ethan Sassine and Braden Seel each netted a goal in the season-opening win.
