Women's Basketball Continues Road Stretch At Duquesne Wednesday

The Flyers Defeated The Dukes At Home Earlier This Season, 68-61

DAYTON - The University of Dayton women's basketball team finishes up the road stretch Wednesday, Jan. 21 at Duquesne University. Tip-off is at 6 p.m. at UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse in Pittsburgh, Pa. 

SCOUTING THE FLYERS 
Dayton is looking to end a two-game losing skid Wednesday and enters the game with a 9-9 record overall. The Flyers are 2-5 in Atlantic 10 play and 3-5 away from home this season. 

Head coach Tamika Williams-Jeter is in her fourth season in charge of her hometown Flyers, coming over after a year at Wittenberg. She has assistant coaching stops at Kansas, Kentucky, Penn State, and Ohio State. 

The Flyers are averaging 65.4 points per game and giving up 67.3 points to opposing teams. Dayton is shooting 43.0 percent overall, 29.7 percent from three point range, and 65.0 percent from the free throw line. UD benefits from a +4.9 rebounding margin. 

Leading the way for the Flyers is senior Nayo Lear with 16.2 points per game with graduate student Nicole Stephens contributing 9.6 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game. 

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
DUQUESNE

Duquesne has had a tough start to league play after going 7-4 in non-conference games. The Dukes are 7-11 on the season and is looking for its first win since Dec. 21 at home vs Pittsburgh. 

Head coach Dan Burt is one of the most tenured coaches in the A-10 in his 12th season leading the Dukes. 

As a team, Duquesne is scoring 65.6 points each outing and holding opponents to just 63.6 points per game. The Dukes are averaging 37.9 percent from the field, 30.7 percent from behind the arc, and 65.9 percent from the charity stripe. 

The duo of Alexis Bordas and Nadia Moore have been the main scoring threats for Duquesne, recording 15.3 points and 12.8 points per game respectively. Harriet Ford provides the strength inside with a team-high 8.3 rebounds per game to go with 7.8 points each contest. 

LAST TIME OUT
Dayton went on the road to Saint Louis Sunday and rallied from a 16-point deficit to eventually fall by just four in UD's second-straight loss.

Duquesne also suffered a road defeat at the hands of UD's next opponent Rhode Island Sunday, 70-50. The Dukes kept it close at halftime, but a big second half by the Rams powered them to the win. 

SERIES HISTORY
Dayton and Saint Louis are meeting for the 54th time in program history with the Flyers holding a 37-16 series advantage. The Billikens have won six of the last seven matchups however, including a 72-63 win at Chaifetz on Feb. 19, 2025.
