BRONX, N.Y. – The University of Dayton volleyball team swept Fordham (25-18, 25-15, 25-18) for a second time this season on Saturday afternoon, moving to 4-0 in Atlantic 10 play.
Dayton took a seven-point lead at 19-12, capitalizing on errors by the Rams. Fordham was persistent in the opening set, climbing back within three. A kill for senior Kamryn Hunt pushed the Flyers closer to winning the set, putting it away on three errors by Fordham.
The Flyers began set two with a 4-0 lead, remaining ahead throughout the set. Graduate Rylee Sloss tallied back-to-back aces, helping to lift Dayton to an eight-point lead. Out of the technical timeout, the Flyers took an 11-point lead with a kill from fifth-year Kaleigh Meritt tallying a kill, sophomore Morgan Asleson getting an ace and Fordham recording two error. Dayton maintained a comfortable lead to take the 2-0 set lead.
Dayton trailed by three during the early part of the third set. After the third set was tied 12-12 on a service error by the Rams, kills for junior Abigail Cresse, senior Gabriela Machin Borges and Hunt gave Dayton a narrow 15-12 lead. The Flyers continued to take advantage of Fordham errors before junior Corrie Anderson earned the final kill of the match.
