#UDWBB Falls Short Versus George Washington

Nicole Stephens Led The Flyers In Scoring.

DAYTON, Ohio—The University of Dayton women's basketball team hosted George Washington University in the series finale and suffered a 56-64 defeat. 

The Flyers (11-11, 4-7 A-10) fall to .500 for the season, and the Revolutionaries (13-11, 5-6 A-10) climb to 5-6  in league play for their season. 

GAME BREAKDOWN

1st Quarter: Dayton 13, George Washington 11 

  • Junior Ajok Madol with a layup early in the first quarter to put the Flyers on the board. 

  • Graduate Nicole Stephens scored a jumper, which made the crowd go wild.

  • Senior Nayo Lear sank two at the foul line too, which brought the Flyers' lead to 3-6.

  • Graduate Maliyah Johnson made a jumper at 5:09.

  • Lear sank a layup with ease to break the tie.

  • Madol with a jumper in the paint gave the Flyers a two-point lead to end the first quarter.  

2nd Quarter: Dayton 26, George Washington 27

  • Sophomore Olivia Leung sank a layup at 7:14 to bring the Flyers just one short of the Revolutionaries. 

  • Freshman M.G. Talle hit a second-chance tip-in layup to bring the Flyers to 18 points. 

  • Stephens shot and sank a three-point jumper off an opponent turnover, making the crowd go wild.

  • Senior Shantavia Dawkins, behind the stripe, shot two good free throws, which brought the Flyers in the lead. 

  • Sophomore Molly O'Riordan behind the line shot two good free throws.

  • Junior Fatima Ibrham closes out the second quarter with one good free throw.

3rd Quarter: Dayton 43, George Washington 39

  • Leung scored a second-chance layup with ease, which brought the Flyers to 28-27.

  • Assisted by Madol, Lear hit a layup at 8:27 to bring Dayton to 30 points. 

  • Leung sank a wide-open three, leading in points for the Flyers. 

  • Lear with a layup brings the Flyers to a four-point lead over the Revolutionaries. 

  • Lear shot a stadium-roaring three, assisted by Stephens, to make it 38-35, Flyers lead. 

  • Stephens' driving jumper and an and-one put three more points on the board for the Flyers.  

  • Stephens made a jumper on a fast break with 0:37 left, closing out the third quarter.

4th Quarter: Dayton 54, George Washington 66

  • Stephens went behind the stripe and scored three good free throws.

  • Lear, with a jumper in the paint, brought the Flyers to 48 points over the Revolutionaries 43. 

  • Stephens went behind the line and made two good free throws, which brought the Flyers back in the lead.

  • With an assist from Leung, O'Riordan drained an easy layup for the Flyers with 5:55 left in the game. The Flyers lead by four. 

  • Stephens sank a three with under two minutes to help the Flyers try and close the gap.
