DAYTON – The University of Dayton women's tennis team will welcome Duquesne to the South Regency Tennis Center and face Ball State in a neutral match this weekend.
The Flyers host Duquesne on Feb. 13 at 10 a.m. On Saturday, Feb. 14, UD will play Ball State at the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason, Ohio. Friday's match will be Dayton's first conference match of the season.
Dayton went 1-2 last weekend, winning 6-1 against Charleston and falling to Oakland and Western Michigan. In Friday's win, Kristen Chin, Mallory Hitchcock, Haley Klein, Grace Murphy and Montserrat Sierra won their singles matches in addition to the Flyers' win of the doubles point.
Duquesne is 3-3 this season, defeating Saint Francis, 5-2, in their last outing. In Thursday's Atlantic 10 Preseason Poll, the Dukes were selected seventh. Denisse Arinez Guilarte leads the Dukes with a 3-2 singles record. Alexsandra O'Brien and Taisia Yakunina lead doubles action with a 2-2 record this season.
Since 2005, UD is 6-17 against Duquesne. In an away match last February, the Flyers fell to Duquesne, 5-2. Dayton won the doubles point in the meeting, along with a singles win for Haley Klein.
The Cardinals are 2-2 so far this season, splitting matches against Butler and Michigan State last weekend. Four players for Ball State have two singles wins on the season, including Sarah Shahbaz, who is undefeated in singles this spring. She and Isabel Tanjuatco are the Cardinals' leading doubles pair, earning MAC Doubles Team of the Week on Feb. 2.
Dayton faced Ball State in the Xavier Invite in the fall and is 4-12 all-time against the Cardinals. In a dual match last February, Ball State won the match 4-3. Neena Katauskas, Natalie Osiecki and Sierra won their singles matches in the loss.
The Flyers will host St. Bonaventure at 6 p.m. on Feb. 21. The team will recognize its seniors at the match.
