ELON, N.C. - The University of Dayton softball team claimed back-to-back 10-1 wins on the first day of the Elon Phoenix Invitational. Dayton downed Mount St. Mary's in five innings followed by a seven-inning win over Manhattan. The Flyers tallied the 20 runs on the strength of 20 hits, including six for extra bases, and record 19 RBI.
Dayton improves to 5-1 on the season while Mount St. Mary's is now 1-2 and Manhattan moves to 1-5 overall.
GAME ONE
Dayton 10, Mount St. Mary's 1 (5 inn.)
4 - sophomore pitcher
Camrynn Linneman recorded a career-high four strikeouts
2 - two Flyers recorded multi-hit games, including freshman
Izzy Calinski who knocked out her first career home run
Win - Linneman (1-0). Loss - Erin Cromwell. Save - None.
GAME TWO
Dayton 10, Manhattan 1
12 - senior pitcher
Izzy Kemp fanned a season-high 12 batters
3 - Calinski went 3-for-4 with three RBI at the plate
HR - Linneman tallied her first career home run in the fifth inning
Win - Kemp (2-0). Loss - Karissa Spring. Save - None.
UP NEXT
Dayton will play two more games on day two of the Phoenix Invitational Saturday. UD is set to take on host Elon at 12 p.m. followed by a 5 p.m. matchup against Mount St. Mary's.
